If BG3 was your first experience with this franchise these games will probably be pretty rough for you. If you played games like NWN or IWD, well, then you probably already played these. If not, you'll enjoy them.

Really, really rough.. but absolutely fantastic games. BG1 was my first exposure to wow you can actually see what you equip?! And wow, you can control 6 characters all at once?!

My mind was pretty blown when I was 8 or 9. The intro sequence terrified the crap out of me too so it was my first time really playing anything that made me feel that way lol

That old gateway PC my father brought home.. good times. I always replay an Infinity Engine game during Christmas time. Its tradition.

I thought they looked interesting, but I can't get into their gameplay (where characters keep on attacking after you choose moves from a menu). like with KotOR.

if they were turn-based, I'd definitely give them a try.

well, technically they ARE turn-based, since they use DnD rulesets and have combat take place in "rounds" which take up about 6 seconds of gameplay, during which each active combatant will get a "turn". spells and effects you cast or get cast on you will generally last a certain number of turns or rounds or hours. also, you can pause the combat at any time to issue new commands. shorthand for this type of gameplay is "real-time with pause".

yea, for some reason, I've always had an issue with RTWP.

...but I only play on consoles, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Does getting the free trial count towards getting the games for free?

My personal favorite of the three. Wish we could get an Enhanced version of NWN2 but it'll never happen. Trying to get that game running on a modern PC and playing multiplayer results in some serious jank.

I'm too stupid to comprehend or enjoy the combat in BG/NWN

i'm playing through NWN for the first time right now. it's great.

I finished a playthrough last year, had a lot of fun. As is tradition, I was coasting through the game until I ran into a cleric spamming flame strike. That spell has game overed me more time than anything else.

NWN's main draw is the player made modules, both single and multiplayer.

Some fantastic ones for both, and even a few very hardcore roleplay servers if you are really into that.
