"Illegals" nor anybody should not be working sub-minimum wage in the US, regardless of any other policy initiatives whether deportation or amnesty & granting citizenship etc.

That's what I came here to say. Like, for all the pushback against deportation, there shouldn't be support for how things are sustained as is. I realize what they have now is probably better than any realistic alternative they can get, but I also think anything that could possibly bring "illegals" to minimum wage would also end up driving them out.

As for the question in the topic title: People are always willing to fill job vacancies. Illegal immigrants get them because they're stuck keeping quiet about their situation, or else they, y'know, get deported. But there's no incentive to hire them if it is ever somehow enforced that no one should be paid less than minimum.

the only way factories, warehouses, farms and all that can get new employees is raising pay by a lot and offering benefits, so guess who will have to pay for all that. Thats for stuff made in country, the tariffs will raise all the prices of stuff from other countries like Trumps last tariffs did

It's an opposition effect, where people are going "hey Trump supports this, so the opposite must be good".

It's like, no, things are more complicated than that. An economy that is sustained off illegal, underpaid work shouldn't be a thing. At the same time, if they couldn't get underpaid work, the vast majority couldn't get any work at all.

Like I get the idea is to throw shade at the idea that Trump's policies can lower prices...but this argument ends up making it sound like you support underpaid illegal immigrant jobs

If slave labor doesn't happen then farmers will have to pay people considerably more to even think about applying for the job.

Minimum wage is good money for illegals and farms often have housing for them on site so they don't have rent payments. Around here many are considered seasonal and disappear in the winter, going back home with the money they saved I assume.

It's already hard to fill positions like roofers in the Phx area And the position pays decent. So I highly doubt a bunch of gringos are going to do it, otherwise they already would be.

They wanted to charge me $125 for my yard every 2 weeks. I told him to pay me $50 every 2 weeks and I'd do it myself. I went and bought my own machines and do it myself, it takes me 30mins both front and back with the edges done too.

$125? I do my own lawn, but my parents "had a guy" and it was $25 a week to mow and edge.
