Unless the driver is actively smoking with me in there, I don't care at all.

I usually ask them if it's cool if I open the window, and they're always accommodating, from my experience.

sometimes they assume it's because it's too warm, and offer to turn on the AC instead.

because people that work for uber arent profesionals..

they are just other civilians with free time making some cash because they don't have any other job, or because they need more money and have to work two jobs, but the point is, they most likely cant afford a separate car for work.

if you expected them to use a different car for their job, you're confusing UBER with actual TAXI DRIVERS.

Never used any of those services. But if I did and the car stank of cigarettes I wouldn't get in.

Holy crap what. I never knew that was a possibility. I only use Lyft when I'm traveling since I don't feel like renting a car and driving and dealing with all that hassle.

Must have been lucky to avoid such a scenario but it sucks that it could exist in the first place. Goddamn smokers hope that those apps institute a smoking ban. Maybe taxis have gotten better, they're reportedly cheaper now in some places

If someone is a smoker, what exactly is it you expect them to do? Really the only thing you should expect is they don't smoke while you are in the car, and that is understandable, or to spray something before you get in to help cover up the smell,but you can't expect someone who smokes to never smoke in their car. And Uber Drivers are using their Personal Car to work,. do you really think they can afford a second car?

I think the best compromise is to be able to request a non smoking car, but to ban people who smoke from working for uber ( or a taxi company) all together, I think that is way overly harsh.

No bother at all, they're providing a service out of their own personal vehicle, I made a guys night by letting him smoke a black and mild and listen to metal last time I rode

I can understand this, but I am more along the lines that when you request a ride from a service where people use personal vehicles, it's just one of the things that you might encounter. Granted it has been very rare for me, but cigarette smell and a nice ride has always resulted in 5 stars from me.

I can definitely understand the people who are less tolerant of it for whatever legitimate reason though.

I personally don't care and people smoking doesn't bother me, but it's probably not a good idea for the driver since a lot of people will care and it will affect business,

The companies they work for rob them and provide no PTO or benefits, and riders don't tip, while the drivers destroy the value of what is almost certainly the most valuable asset they own; their own private vehicle. Only a dickhead would expect anything more than a safe ride.

Same. I don't smoke but everyone around me did when I was growing up. Don't mind it at all.

I have never been in one but way back in the day when I would occasionally use Taxi's which is basically the same thing I hated it. Haven't been in one since the 90's though. I always had a high appreciation for someone who had a very clean and pleasant smelling vehicle, would comment on it and tip them more.

This has never happened to me. Id probably just not tip. Im not a huge fan but I also don't care all that much about a moderate amount of cigarette smoke.

I'll be honest, the last time I went into a car that smelled like Cigarette smoke was when I took a taxi in New York about 5-6 years ago. I know the stereotype and all, but the cab driver refused to open the window even when it was smelly in there. I guess I was mostly at fault for even accepting the ride, but my cousin and I were drunk as fuck (he was worst off than me) and I didn't feel safe for us to walk back to his apartment.

would you call someone "spoiled" for complaining if the car had any other type of odor? like if the car reeked of old fish, or sweaty gym clothes, would someone be "spoiled" for leaving a bad review? under what circumstances is it appropriate to leave a bad review without being "spoiled", IYO?

Those people are sacrificing their property while being overtly exploited for your convenience. So yea, if you take issue with the smell of tobacco in their personal vehicle, especially when you could have called a cab, you're unappreciative and spoiled.

About when a bad review is warranted? If they drive unsafely or get lost making the ride cost more are examples.

The first sentence is only irrelevant if you're the unappreciative type.

Like I said earlier, I've never used one of those services.

However, if you smoke enough in your car that it fucking stinks, you shouldn't be driving people around for money. If you are going to be using your car like that, treat it better and don't smoke in it. And if do anyways, then it is your own damn fault if people are upset with the stench.

eh, I dunno. it might not even be the driver. if they just had 2 passengers who smoked cigs immediately before getting in the scent will probably still be lingering.

yup, people should have the right to request it imo, but Drivers should not be fired for smoking in their personal vehicle ( as long as they arent smoking while they have a customer in the vehicle of course.)

they should definitely be using air freshner or a spray to help cover the smell for the customers as well

They are still charging money for a service, so its OK to rate them based on the experience. It doesnt matter whether they are a cab or uber.
