A bit about myself. I have several psychological issues like extreme anxiety and depression. I am on disability through my dads Medicare.

My parents seriously dont think Trump is going to do anything that will affect me. They dont think that this is the start of a dictatorship. The existential dread I am feeling is just too much.

There might not be much to talk about given what youve already outlined your feelings and the response to that

Sorry that happened, though

For a lot of them, there is no breaking point. There were many people who acknowledge that Trump screwed them hard, and yet never wavered in support for the bastard. Some even went to their deaths, gasping their last while continuing to parrot their leader's rhetoric of COVID being a hoax, even as it was killing them.

My parents, as well as almost all of my extended family, are diehard Republicans (as well as diehard "Christians") and have always voted red, no matter who's running. I do my best not to talk to them about anything politics or religion-related, though it's sometimes unavoidable.

Fun fact, my father told me the other day that my grandfather is rolling in his grave because I didn't vote for Trump, so I kindly reminded him that said grandfather regularly used the hard N word to describe any black person. He also seems to think that gas and grocery prices are going to go down because of Trump, so... fuck 'em. I'm only worried about my brother at this point, as he's been trying to get on disability and this is almost certainly going to fuck him over.

Im sorry you and your brother have to go through your family being like that.

I also forgot to mention that my brother was an idiot and voted for Trump. He has two daughters and lives in a red state. Dumbass thought the republicans were only banning abortions on the third trimester. He married a conservative woman and all of his friends grew up in conservative households.

Im checking in with my estranged half brother to see how hes doing. I havent spoken to him in years because of my parents. Really hope hes doing well. Hes married to a Mexican immigrant and has a son with her.

My mom is that for sure. 100% Trump fanatic. I'm not quite sure about dad, but he seemed pleased that Trump won.

I feel like if I say anything at all that I'm going to end up getting screamed at over it. It's pointless too. Mom mentioned Democrats preparing for riots if Trump lost, and claimed that Republicans didn't do anything when Biden became president. I mentioned that they raided that capitol, and snapped at me that it was all fake to make the Republicans look bad. I scoffed at her and was like "You really think that?" And she said it had been proven already.

I could see the anger in her eyes, and I know she saw it in mine. So we both just dropped it. We get along great 99.9% of the time, but when we disagree like this it becomes a huge argument for days or weeks. So I think we both made the right choice at the time, because if either of us pressed it further my life would be extra miserable at the moment.

I just don't think I'll be able to keep my mouth shut for 4 years once things go south and she starts blaming Democrats and excusing Trump. So it's probably inevitable that we'll have a shouting match at some point.

Yes, we all live together. I'm not financially able to leave. Best option to remove myself is coming up soon when we relocate our business from one building to another. I'll have the option to continue renting our current space as an apartment if I want. Financially it'd be better not to, so I can start saving money again, but I am tempted just to have a space for myself.

If that's the case, being tossed out was always a risk at any moment.

I work in healthcare. Trump literally said he has "concepts of a plan." If there is a reduction in healthcare funding, I'm screwed. If he weakens public health with stupid policies, there's going to be a lot more sick people than the system can handle under his leadership for the second time. People will continue to struggle to afford their meds or will have to settle for alternatives that don't work as well. His tariff bullshit will actually negatively impact the economy and deporting legally naturalized citizens would put even further strain.

I don't want to dismiss TC's concerns, but he has a safety net and is mostly protected.

Unfortunately, this the point at which they're lost. You can't have a productive conversation with someone who can't even agree on established facts. For your own sanity, don't bother trying to discuss this sort of thing until you can agree on facts, you'll only exhaust yourself.

I really hope that I am. I know far more people have it much worse than I do. My parents and my pets might be the only ones keeping me from being unwell if you know what I mean.

Note to the mods: I am not contemplating suicide, but to say that Im living in very uncertain times. Ive never been in so much fear in my life than right now, not just for myself but for everyone that will be negatively impacted by Project 2025. I wish everyone that has it worse than me the best of luck, and not to give up. You do matter.

It's not so bad at the moment. It used to be totally out of control and destructive(from my dad). Now it just feels like tension is building between us due to the election.

Things will be ok though, we've been through worse, and this will eventually pass. As long as the crashing economy doesn't push us back to being penniless and going hungry again. Which it very well might.

Power-tripping. They don't need to believe anything they say. If something makes you feel bad, and they said it, then that means, in their own minds, that they have power over you, and they're "better" than you. Their self-worth doesn't come from within; it's entirely dependent on other people; they only know how to derive meaning and purpose from a hierarchy where they're above someone else. This is the same mentality that fuels online trolling. Trolls feel weak and worthless in reality. By getting a rise out of someone online, they can finally taste a little droplet of power.
