Best case scenario, Ukraine will be forced to sign a peace treaty recognizing the Russian annexation of the claimed territories and agreeing to not enter any alliance or economic union without Russian approval.

More likely, Russia pushes for more land before doing the above, probably with a Kremlin-backed puppet government with the state reduced to a rump state.

Under Trump, Ukraine won't have enough support to defend itself against Russia.

Trump forces a peace treaty. Ukraine gives up some land and agrees not to join NATO or the EU for X years (they would not have been accepted into either regardless).

Ukrainians complain, but realistically its the best outcome for them. The only alternative is the destruction of their country, regardless of continued US support.

Trump and Putin collude, Putin announces the war is over, and Americans say, "See? We told you Trump was the peacemaker!"

Trump pulls all support from Ukraine. He'll say something about peace, but it'll be spite because trying to extort Ukraine was what got Trump impeached the first time. Russia commits several more war crimes and turns the average Ukrainian into mulch, and Trump will call himself a bastion of peace because of it.

Other likely option: Trump pulls all aid from Ukraine, and forces them to give into Russia's "peace" demands - where Ukraine sacrifices literally everything Russia has taken, agrees to not re-arm, and promises they'll never join NATO so Russia can invade them when they lick their wounds a bit.

Russia will then wait until Jan 6th (or whatever) 2029 after Trump loses again to re-invade and actually kill all the Ukrainians in 2 weeks. Or they'll re-invade whenever Trump gets rid of elections because it doesn't matter what he does anymore.

Trump deploys the US military to aid Russia.

Europe will step up its aid. whatever they're spending on refugees right now is far less than they'll be spending if Putin tries to advance further

If Trump decides Ukraine is a lost cause by Jan then he may try and broker a peace deal with Russia. Although without any leverage the terms will likely be in Russias favor unfortunately.

Here were Putin's initial demands a few weeks into the war.

The Ukrainian army must be reduced to a minimum: 50,000 people, including 1,500 officers (five times smaller than Ukraines existing army in 2022).

Ukraine must not develop, produce, invent, or deploy on its territory any missile weapons of any type with a range greater than 250 kilometers. Russia also reserves the right to ban Ukraine from using any other types of weapons that may be developed as a result of scientific research in the future.

Ukraine must recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk peoples republics, including all of the territory within the borders of Ukraines Donetsk and Luhansk regions (despite the fact that Russia controlled only part of these territories, as is still the case today).

Ukraine must assume the costs of repairing all of the infrastructure in Donbas that had been destroyed since 2014.

Ukraine and its partners must lift all sanctions against Russia and withdraw all lawsuits filed against Russia since 2014.

Ukraine must make Russian an official state language and restore all of the property rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Ukraine must repeal of and permanently ban any prohibitions of symbols associated with victory over Nazism; in other words, it must re-legalize Soviet and communist symbols.

congress is entirely republican controlled. Trump won't even have to do anything to deny aid. Congress just won't pass any more bills for it.

Real interesting thing to wonder is what will the military do if Trump starts trying to send weapons to Russia instead? Apparently there was a meeting of the brass before January 6 to decide what they'd do if Trump refused to give up power.

Trump pulls out all aid, Ukraine keeps fighting and the front of the war continues to barely change.

Trump will reduce aid, of this I am quite certain. It will make the fight harder for Ukraine, but not impossible. However, abiding the restrictions on using US weapons on Russian targets meant continued military aid for Ukraine. If Trump stops all military aid, then that also means the leverage the US has over Ukraine is gone. They'll be using their remaining US weapons to their fullest potential. Plenty of places in Russia will blow up. Putin won't pursue negotiations after that.

Come to think of it, Putin ruled out negotiations after Ukraine invaded Kursk. I don't think he ever had any intentions to negotiate, to be honest. It's just smoke and mirros. A peace deal would not stop the war, only pause it for a few years. Putin wants Ukraine under his thumb and eliminate the Ukrainian identity by any means possible. Ukraine knows this, and they won't accept a deal that jeopardises their country, culture, and people.
I mean, under what conditions would you agree that genocide is better than resistance?
