It's clear OP was referring to the Academy Awards in the intent of this topic and agesboy is not right because films are nominated for awards in the year after they are released. All the films in this poll are from 1990 because those are the films that would have been eligible for film awards in 1991. This is not rocket science. Y'all are arguing for the sake of arguing and mad that you misunderstood the question.

And Silence of the Lambs did receive multiple films awards including Oscars. In 1992.

I asked who PotD think should have won best picture in 1991, then I provided the five movies that were nominated for best picture, then I said the actual winner of best picture, and asked PotD who they think should have won out of those five movies

I haven't seen any of these :/

No I think that's just you. You use the term "best picture" among any group of people who are even marginal film fans and there's an inherent understanding that's a reference to the Academy Award of the same name.

To actually answer the question, I guess Goodfellas. It's a good movie and highly quotable but imo it's a bit overrated and like many of his films I find it overlong, unevenly paced, and have difficulty finishing it on rewatches (exceptions being the Departed and Wolf of Wall Street). But compared to the other options I think it's the best.

1990 just didn't have a ton of amazing films. Films that I've watched many times? Yes. But films that are objectively great films? Eh.

Part of the reason Dances with Wolves won was because it was such a box office monster that year. the 90s sure loved Kevin Costner.
