I've never had iced coffee without cream/sugar

I always referred to that as "cold coffee" with "iced coffee" being the stuff with milk/cream and sugar

All the iced coffee I've seen is loaded with sugar

I tried it once, and it was not my thing at all.

I took one sip and audibly said "I don't know what I was expecting." I knew how coffee tasted, and I knew what cold felt like, but my brain just wasn't at all expecting it to be, literally, just cold coffee.

Maybe part of it is hot and iced tea definitely use different blends, so I was expecting coffee to work the same way or something.

Are you sure? I drink coffee black but if it's cold, it needs a sweetener.

Cold tends to dis-intensify most flavors, so the ice not only waters down a naturally bitter-leaning beverage, reducing the temperature may muddle the less pleasant flavors more than the ones you like.

Yes, I've been drinking cold brew black coffee for years. It literally replaced energy drinks for me too.

I drink black cold brew daily at work. Love it. Starbucks' iced coffee is fucking disgusting. I tried it with the Classic syrup and it's 10x worse.

I do agree hot coffee is better with some sweetener, and cold cream/milk to just cool it off a bit.

At work we get a free packed coffee every week, so I've been getting the Instant Pike - it's intended to be made hot, but I make it cold with ice, and put it Hershey's syrup to sweeten and thicken/reduce the chalkiness a bit

Must be an american thing. In middle europe, people rarely drink cold coffee. Most cafeterias don't even offer them.

Personally, I don't get it what americans like about them. Especially when they are watered down because they were filled with ice, I find them gross (no offense).

I rather have me a classic espresso or ristretto (no sugar, no milk).

Same. The Iced Americano tastes a lot better for me. There's definitely a difference in flavor.

Yep, when I'm more thirsty or just want a minor flavor switch up, I get the Iced Americano. The flavor is just so nice and smooth

On a side note, I always chuckle when people get an Americano, but add a whole bunch of syrups, sweeteners, and creams. Like, just get a Latte. It's okay

I actually don't like coffee, hot or cold. I've tried 4 or 5 different kinds over the past 15 years or so and never once did I say "Oh you know what? That's not bad!" It immediately turns me off lol maybe an acquired taste, but I have no desire to get into it. I guess I feel like I don't need it for the caffeine so why even bother? Also don't dig hot tea, same experience.

BUT I LOVE THE SMELL :) of hot coffee anyway. Not so much the fancy iced ones.

Hot coffee on a cold day > cold coffee on a hot day > hot coffee on a hot day > cold coffee on a cold day

This is all for actual iced coffee and not cold brew with ice added. Cold brew is an entirely separate thing that I prefer to not have as it loses all flavor nuance to gain a smoothness and that's not a good trade

generally speaking, as coffee cools the bitterness decreases as the sweetness and acidity increase. also, sweeter things tend to pop more with cold foods as well (eg melted ice cream tastes a lot different)

I've found the opposite. Iced coffee seemed to bring out the bitterness more. I order my coffee black, but iced coffee without cream or sugar just tasted bad. I imagine it's like when coffee cools off, it tends to not taste as good, though maybe it was just a bad batch.
