Montanas electronic absentee voting system hit a snag just as overseas voters were gearing up to cast their ballots in the upcoming federal election. According to Daily Inter Lake, the issue came to light when Max Himsl, a Montana resident living in the United Kingdom, opened his electronic ballot and noticed something troubling: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris was missing from the list of options. Only Republican candidate Donald Trump and Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were listed.

Im upset my democratic process was interrupted, Himsl said, reflecting the frustration felt by many who rely on the system to have their votes counted from abroad.

The error was discovered shortly after the states Electronic Absentee System went live on Friday, September 20, allowing eligible overseas voters to cast their ballots up to 45 days before the November 5th general election. The system is intended to serve Montana residents living abroad, including members of the armed forces, by making it easier for them to vote.

The Montana Secretary of States Office confirmed that the issue was isolated to the online voting system and did not affect traditional mail-in ballots. Our team and the vendor quickly investigated and found that only a few voters may have been impacted, the office stated in an email. As a precaution, the Electronic Absentee System was taken offline for troubleshooting.

The glitch was expected to be resolved by later that same day, and the system would be back up for those impacted to cast their votes. Himsl, voting absentee online for the first time, immediately reported the issue to the Flathead County Election Department. He later received an email confirming that the Secretary of States office was aware of the problem and working to correct it.

The Secretary of States Office reassured voters that this problem was confined to the online system and did not affect any other ballots, including those mailed out. They are working diligently to ensure the system is functioning properly for all eligible voters.

Republicans are doing everything they can to cheat this election, they know they don't need to win, they just need to create enough chaos so that they have grounds to contest the results so they can force the supreme court to rule on it.

The fact that Garland is doing absolutely nothing about this really sickens me, the man got screwed over by republicans and has done his best to protect them ever since he became DOJ even through they attack him, threaten him and call him a RINO

This. It probably was just some stupid oversight or straight up mistake, but Republicans are such bad faith actors that it's hard not to go down that rabbit hole.

This should be thoroughly investigated. We shouldn't be giving Republican officials the benefit of the doubt ever at this point. But incompetence is certainly a possibility with Montana officials and Harris wasn't winning there anyway. We should all be hyper vigilant in swing states.

What would be the point in doing something so blazingly obvious that is going to be corrected in plenty of time for those small amount of people to vote normally? Especially in a state you KNOW Trump will win and is worth 4 electoral votes. You think no one was going to mention she wasnt on the ballot and just go about their business and not vote in the next 45 days and no one would report on this or fix it?

This would be the dumbest thing in the world to do and easily verified if it was purposefully tampered with and would be huge news that would be devastating and damaging to a huge degree. It just makes no sense.

The point is Delay.

I get your central idea that "it will be fixed" but every time they can throw some junk in the works that does equate to a small victory. It's like how the RFK on-the-ballot or off-the-ballot dance mostly seems to be about delaying the start of early voting.

It's also like how Trump isn't going to win his trials, but if he can delay them forever then it amounts to a win.

This absolutely helps the right wing narrative though, anything that sews doubt, anything that causes delays, it all helps them with the steal they are very open about doing.

Nobody is saying that they had no intention of ever putting Kamala on the ballot but the idea that this was done intentionally? It's not all that crazy considering the rhetoric coming out of the right.

Its very possible to have an almost entirely professional system of voting and stoll have it sabotaged by one asshole.

The solution is to find that person and throw them in prison for a very long time.

Long enough that no one with the professional acumen to do something like this would ever risk it.
