I can't not signal. It's so deeply ingrained into muscle memory I sometimes find myself signaling for sharp curves where there's no other routes or turns I could even take.

it may as well be automatic

Its why you get fined when you fail to indicate. But I guess in America road laws are just suggestions given how many people speed and look with disdain upon people who only drive at the speed limit

Dude was flabbergasted when I told him driving with a phone in your hand is illegal. His reaction was to say **** you bootlicker now he doesn't talk to me anymore.

That's basically an invitation to have some car zip in front of you and take that spot.

Also some good advice after reading this topic and seeing just how reckless and the complete disregard some people have for others right to live get a dash cam it will save your butt if you ever get into an accident with these lunatics who even if they caused the wreck through their own negligence will still blame you and probably get violent too. Dash Cam and a CCP are a must when driving in 2024.

I've done that before. Then I'm like wait, why am I signaling, it's just a curve lol

Yeah that's another rule that many people don't do. I always leave a 2-3 second gap in front of me and I increase that gap if the car in front of me is tailgating someone, or the car behind me is tailgating me. It's defensive driving 101.

Oh, I don't know their history. I was just chiming in that there's a generation of drivers that are legitimately bad at driving. Makes me fear for 2010's drivers. Or maybe they'll be better, who knows.

I'm nit one to defender trumpsters but there is the whole state of California you didn't account for. I don't see the correlation between politics and driving.

tbf a lot of the worst drivers i see here in CA are the dudes who drive the massive rams

last week i saw some guy speed like hell, pass everyone on the highway in the left lane, then cram his way into the smallest gap possible bc he was about to miss his exit and needed to go across multiple lanes at once

i don't think there's actually a correlation there but yeah

I always use my turn signals be it for lane changes or turns.

However I will say that when I make a lane change I use a European lane change, which pisses a lot of people off.

I hit signal then move to the other lane

if I am moving into the lane I have already made sure there is enough time and space to do so and the signal is more of less a courtesy

never had an issue. only time there is an issue is thick traffic when people want to prevent others from moving into a lane

a turn signal is infact not a "hey I want to turn! please slow down by 20 mph so I can get into your lane!!"

I see people who think that is what a signal is, and they never get over and just sit in a lane with their signal bleeping and they could have got into that lane many times and they just didn't cause they don't know how to drive

also when it comes to others I can know when a guy is wanting over or not just based on experience whether they signal or not

I personally don't see this as a bad thing, if nothing else it alerts any drivers behind you who might not be paying attention that there's a sharp curve ahead.

I have infact even slowed down for people I determined are wanting to get over

and they don't, so I just say "ok guess they didn't want over?" then speed up and pass

as soon as I pass, they get over

some people just really really don't know how to change lanes and can only do so if there is like 6 cars worth of empty space or something ridiculous

sometimes they even have the signal on and I am like "ok get over" and they don't so I get tired of it and pass and then they get over

It's just almost no one is merging matching speed or over. Always see people trying to merge into the freeway going 55. Like everyone ON the freeway is going 65 or over and even though the on ramp is like 400 metes long and there's like a whole extra lane for merging they use the entire thing until it turns into the shoulder to merge without getting up to speed.

people will change into a lane that is obviously going faster than them when they had no need to do so

like there is a 4 lane freeway

person is in lane 2nd from the right but jumps into the 3rd lane just because, no real reason to be there

all the traffic that was going fine is now blocked and have to slow down to that person or try to pass them (and they do so either in the leftmost lane or will jump into the 2nd from the right which is the slower lane to do so)

overall must problems with driving including much of traffic is due to people literally not using their intelligence and just driving the way they "feel" like. for example this scenario I described they just want to be in that lane cause it "feels" good or something, no logical thought applied to it

like you might see this person do that, then in 3 mins they have to get over all the way for the exit, had they used logic to plan they would have stayed to the right

For a car centric society there is an alarming number of people that either never learned or don't care to drive properly

Does anyone remember that one underground tunnel in GTA3 that connects the islands together. Where you constantly crash because the AI cars are programmed to just spontaneously change lanes at random and turn signals don't exist in that game.

Some people are proud to be the real-life version of those NPCs.

Same. I live at the end of a dead end, private road. It just kind of tapers off into forest, and my driveway is about 10 feet from that taper off.

I signal that turn into my totally vacant driveway with no other traffic ever around, all the time.
