I bet if Jesus were here today, a group of people would still hate him. I'm guessing a lot of extremely religious people. They'd say he was a blasphemer...which is exactly what got him killed 2000 years ago. We humans...are special.

Lol perfect? No. Definitely not. Jesus was just a person. Same as any other human. He wasn't divine and he certainly wasn't a messiah and that's if he was even real.

Yep.
Jesus literally finds a blind guy and heals him.

He runs into the temple all excited cause he can see. They ask him how this happened? He said Jesus did it. They knowing who Jesus was are instantly angry.
They say Jesus is bad so it must have been something else and then they go, "wait you are probably faking, I bet you weren't even blind!"
Then they tell him he can't come into the temple anymore, he is banned.

Tbf religion is constantly shoved in everyone's faces, at least here in the states. Christianity in particular.

The moment something non Christian is even uttered, the persecution and victimhood complex of Christianity kicks in. Even in the non Christian spaces, Atheist aren't exactly a welcomed group because so many don't like them not believing in at least some kind of spiritual or higher power.

Think it depends on what faith or religion you follow. For example, in some faiths, Jesus is the son of God.

Oh no I totally get it. "Religious" people can be assholes. I'm certainly not blind to those abusing it to harm others.

It's just on this board it feels like even the utter of the name Jesus brings out everyone to mock Him and Christianity. Everyone is free to believe in (or not believe in) whatever they wish, sometimes it just feels like "Yeah. I get it guys".

Not mocking it, but I am not great fan of the biblical stories when people talk about Jesus being persecuted and killed because that has been the direct cause of enormous suffering for my people.

The OP and most of the posts in the topic aren't even very mean-spirited toward Christianity. It's exactly the tone I'd think a completely neutral non-believer would have. The way anyone talks about any religion they don't believe in. It's not mean, it's just not excessively deferential.

I don't mean to sound insensitive or be the bearer of bad news but you will inevitably be dealing with people talking about Christianity in a plain way like this in the decades to come, as younger people continue to move away from organized religion.

I mean yeah, he technically had to die as a loophole lol. Basically the old ways to be forgiven was to tell your sins to an animal (most of the time it was a lamb) and then kill it (slit it's throat) since animals don't go to heaven or hell and basically "disappears". So yeah God had us kill Jesus so we stopped murdering animals for this very reason lol.

Oh I definitely mock it. Seeing as those "stories" were used to brutalize my ancestors into slavery. I have nothing but contempt for religion. All it is is a type of control. Be good or your gonna go to hell blah blah blah.

What would biblical advice look like in the modern world?

  • Careful screaming at me in public. They'll lock you up for that kind of behavior!
  • How often should a man drive? Beats the hell out of me. Maybe there's a lost verse. ;)
  • I've never been arrested for talking to myself. And I talked to myself in public all the time!
  • Just play along. What's the use in starting a religious debate? If it won't change anything.
  • Today, I want to talk about the Native Americans and how it fits or doesn't fit my religious model.
  • That's the spirit!
  • Unless you really, really want to. Then.... well, there's something to say about unrequited urges.
  • If I ever actually spoke back, you'd be famous.
  • They say I'm still alive somewhere out there.
  • Do you know what a computer is? I've heard it's like two books put together that can read each other. Like the tax collector.
