Some people love them, some hate them.

I enjoy them, and I will sometimes do 18+ ones with my girlfriend. And she does the regular ones to sleep.

Couldn't care less about them. It's not a video type I ever seek out.

I'm in a weird spot where I judge the people making them but not the people who listen to them

I've tried listening to ones with various sound effects, ones where a person is making noises with their mouth and ones with a female voice whispering sweet lines roleplaying style, and none of them do absolutely anything for me. ASMR just doesn't work for me. I do really like white noise for sleeping though.

What gives me the tingles is music I really like and typically those songs use modulation. Not sure why, but it feels so good to me. I'm guessing this is what ASMR is to others.

Not really a fan. That shit puts me to sleep.

No. I have no problem falling asleep.

They're comfy and make me not sad. Mostly for the ones of attractive women and long eye contact. Helped me when I was depressed to be honest.

Not for me at all, but I get the appeal.

It's the majority of my porn consumption.

I use them regularly if Im having trouble falling asleep.

I will say that I find a lot of it incredibly cringe, especially the weirdly sexual or role-play stuff. I stick to basic stuff like tapping or ear to ear whispering and its usually pretty relaxing.

I don't get the tinglies but I find whispering and humming very soothing to listen to all the same.

Ive watched video with barely hearing the audio and just listened to audio asmr.
i figured out its because of the Immersion really. Something about the subtle noises and visuals of folks moving is just relaxing to me. Dunno what it is really...

Yeah I get that the sexual ones are kind of a blight and I can understand why they could be called cringe. The whispering isn't that bad, but can be annoying. I absolutely hate almost all of the various sounds ones though.

The ones that are just completely undisguised horny? Seriously, just watch some porn.

There's plenty though that I do like, a great example would be for instance watching Joy of Painting episodes and the sound from Bob Ross using his knife to put sticks into his painting, that shit's amazing and that's when I understood what tingles are. There's absolutely certain sounds that work for me.

Any of the lips smacking and mouth sounds squelching noises are just weird.

I don't mind any of the shoop/tickaticka/psspss like sounds though, mainly because it's doesn't involve them turning a $1,000 sensitivity all the way up and just opening their mouth and rolling their tongue around and recording the noise.

I mean people have certain sounds they like it it's not like every ASMR person is going to like very ASMR video. I like more natural sounding stuff than 'I'm whispering super close to the mic!' That doesn't do it for me.

ASMR works on me in real life, yet only unintentionally... thereby, opting to search & view ASMR vids on youtube cancels any sensations. I can't select to be tingled, it doesn't work like that for me.
Still... when they're crafted/presented well, they can be legit relaxing.

The only ASMR I listen to is rain or waves. The other stuff is... not my thing.

I hate them, mainly because stupid videos have caused people to have less understanding of what ASMR is.

ASMR isn't a type of video or content. It's a response to stimuli. The R in ASMR is literally Response. You can have videos meant to trigger ASMR, so technically those would qualify as "ASMR videos," but the term has left people mixed up about what ASMR is and many seem to think it means a type of content, that the content is ASMR.

ASMR videos are useless for me because not everyone that experiences ASMR do so from audio stimuli. All the soft whispers and whatnot other sounds do nothing for me. I'm triggered by altruism. I need someone to do something for me for no purpose than to do something for me. So, for example, let's say a friend decides my hair is begging for a makeover so she sits me down and pampers my hair. That's amazing. Going to a salon and paying someone to style my hair does nothing for me because they're just doing a job.

Some people just have a soothing voice. I don't specifically search for ASRMs most of the time, but they can be nice when I'm in the mood.

This. And I'm pretty sure I have a mild case of misophonia, and I hate eating sounds like chewing or when people loudly gulp drinks, so the common ones like people chomping down on crunchy foods really irritate me.

I like them. Some are very soothing.

Assuming you mean the ones of people speaking or doing shit like crinkling paper or whatever and not just ambient noises, absolutely disgusts me to my core to listen to. Makes my skin crawl.

I loathe them. When a AMSR cooking/food video pops up on my feed I hit the close button so quick. I didnt even realize people liked that in their porn, but I suppose it wouldnt be so bad to an extent in that media. I just dont like hearing people eat, or brush their hair and shit.

And to my surprise, the usage of the stereo channels almost made it seem like the hair-clipping was real, like it was actually happening right next to you. All the while, the Italian guy is talking, and at one point, whispers one line into the left ear, and it sounded like he was right there next to me.

So my first impression of ASMR back when it started up, from the only example I ever heard, is that it's about doing witchcraft with stereo channels to make them seem like surround sound, and like the sounds are really there with you.

But apparently that's not what it is at all anymore.

There's a lot of low effort ASMR out there I think. People really do shit like "rabbit eating a carrot ASMR"

Never really even watched / listened to one for more than a few seconds.

I will say I love the sound of (real) rain, so it might just be something I haven't tried yet.

Being a man of refined taste, I tend to be quite selective with my ASMRtists. I find that an overreliance on props comes across as lazy and lacks the finesse I look for in ASMR. My preferences lean toward the simplicity and effectiveness of mouth sounds, hand movements, whispering, or immersive roleplaysideally, a seamless blend of these. I also appreciate the artistry of longer, well-crafted videos, rather than the brief, five-minute snippets that seem more geared toward content farming.

Occasionally, I encounter a rather frustrating cognitive dissonance where an ASMRtist is stunningly beautiful, yet their content simply doesnt meet my expectations. In such cases, I persist, giving them chance after chance in the hope that their work will eventually resonate with me, but alas, it never does. Ultimately, I have to part ways and move on
