The dawn/midday/dusk thing is determined by your answers to wakka, selphie and tidus during the dream tutorial. The first answer to their questions is the dawn choice, second is midday and third is night.

dawn = less exp needed leveling from 1-50, more needed leveling from 50-100

midday = normal distribution

dusk = opposite of dawn

There is really not a bad option.

Both. To an extreme degree too. I think Second Chance or Leaf Bracer, can be gotten at level 40 something at the earliest or level 90+.

Yeah, all the main KH games do this, I guess for some level of customization, but it's unusually obtuse and kind of weirdly done.

It's better in 2, but in 1 your Sword/Shield/Staff choice can be kinda major. It's not like you can't work around it, but wow does getting Guard/Leaf Bracer/Second Chance late kind of really suck. On the other hand, getting the extra MP from the Staff is literally irreplaceable, whereas at least everything else you give up can be gotten eventually with enough time.

It's nothing to worry about too much, but deciding what to pick always stressed me out.

I think one of the options gives you an extra Item Slot or something that is also irreplaceable, though obviously less useful than freakin' MP.

Got to Traverse Town and spoke to everyone in the courtyard and Cid. Saving here because I'm tired. So far I can dig what's going on. I feel like Riku obviously becomes evil or at least possessed by the big bad. I'm fairly confident I remember Sephiroth being in one of the games, and that's kind of who Riku reminds me of.

KH1: I choose the staff to get the max MP myself.

Although, on Proud Mode, I found myself doing a quite a lot of level grinding to get my HP up as soon as possible.

The version I played was the original PS2 release, same for KH2 as well.

I'm pretty sure it's just 5 or 6 waves then there's no more unless you leave/re-enter (may need to go two screens away for the respawn). I think you need the Thunder spell to do the puzzle - in any event I know you have to come back later.

Yes nothing significant is missable in the modern version of the game (in the very OG release there was a missable Trinity mark but thankfully that is now fixed).

I will say the mood of Traverse Town is really fantastic. Wandering around in that perpetual night, through the alleyways and charming little streets, all the little secrets and hidden areas. It really inflamed my imagination when I first played the game, and nothing else in the rest of the series has ever really matched that.

At first I thought it was nostalgia, but even when I replayed the series a few years ago I was surprised how the aesthetic still held up.

Unfortunately shops are basically only in Traverse Town. It takes a weirdly long time to learn Cure.
I would even recommend moving on to the next world if Cerberus is too much.

Cloud and Leon are both battles that you can win or lose.
