Compared to GTA IV the setting just seems really dull and lifeless. There aren't a lot of unique NPCs like IV.

your hot take is only hot garbage because you literally compare it to gta 4. like what. lol.

i mean if you said compared to rdr2 then ok. but this is just a terrible take.

I agree. V is my least liked GTA game. I even like Advance more.

I really liked the setting and overall map layout. I enjoyed the city feel and the separate feel of where Trevor was in Sandy Shores. Obviously within the city you have a distinct difference between Micheals more upscale neighborhood and where Franklin lived in the hood and how the people in those areas react very differently to you.

I also like the different feeling of the house that Franklin moves into. The only downside to me is story wise they give you very little incentive to spend much time in the Northwest area of the map of Paleto Bay which I actually quite like with the logging trucks and the much more rustic feel to the area.

I kind of wish I would have been able to utilize that area more. All in all though I still love the map and setting overall. Thought it was quite good.

GTA IV's setting is amazing. I love Liberty City and I still go back to play IV's story every now and again. I've only beat V the first time and that's it. Liberty City just felt much better than Los Santos. Both are good, but there is no comparison for me.

I remember when I first played GTA III and I would just go down to the docks and shoot people who would just keep respawning and that was the most immersive and amazing experience in a video game ever.

IV's rendition of Liberty City is still one of the most immersive (urban) open world environments and is such an accurate depiction of NY/NJ that even the in-game radio bumpers were accurate to their RL counterparts. There are a lot of interesting NPC types doing specific tasks around the city and everything adds up to make the city (and even Alderney/NJ which was an afterthought) feel authentic.

V is literally just Los Angeles recreated from Google Maps but ends up looking weird as hell since LA is so widespread and they're shoving everything into the roughly the same space as GTA IV. There aren't any interesting or unique NPC types so it feels like everyone's just wandering around the sidewalks.

It's the smallest, least (environmentally) diverse map in the series, there's nothing to do in it, and there are only a select few areas where driving is actually fun.

I dunno, I thought it was really immersive.

with just driving to the mountains, going hunting, just messing around, etc., it's probably next to RDR2 as far as I could lose myself in a game's world.
