Apparently the guy justforgot his fucking daughter in scorching temperatures so he could play hours of video games. Piece of shit is thankfully being charged with first degree murder, among other charges.

According to JD Vance, this guy had more invested in America's future and thus deserved more voting power than a man wanting but unable to have children.

I always always always have sympathy first in cases like this.

We had a man across the street who was on his first week back to work after being out on leave for 3 months when their baby was born. He got back to the usual routine and forgot to drop her off at day care. He didn't realize until he went inside the day care and they told him his child wasn't there. Imagine that heartache, going back to your car. His life went from perfect job house marriage newborn to a living hell, and it might have been a cup of coffee away from not making that mistake.

I can't wrap my heart around that kind of pain.

This was posted some weeks ago. I don't know how the hell you go like 3 hours without thinking about your daughter a single time, and this idiot admits he was aware of the car's feature that cut the engine after 30 minutes (which turned the air conditioning off). He also lied about what time they got home to try to make it seem like she wasn't in there that long, but he was proven false by a neighbor's security camera. Just the absolute worst, surprised the wife is defending him.

*Just to clarify, this article is straight-up wrong where it says he forgot to take her out of the car. He intentionally left her in there because she was asleep and he didn't wanna wake her, which he apparently did often according to text exchanges.

I remember this story and it kills me seeing the picture of the little girl. I have friends joke on me that I'm a hawk when it comes to my daughter because I'm always around her everywhere she goes. Like one, she's incredibly high maintenance and out going that just me taking my eyes off of her for even a second could mean she's darting across the room. I just have to make sure she's alright, I can't imagine myself ever leaving my child alone unsupervised for even 5 min.

I have no sympathy here. Why couldn't he have just taken her in and then played? It's not that hard to do. He was selfish in every way. Glad he's getting charged with first degree murder. I'm shocked his wide is defending him.

Shit. I'm scared to death half the time when I leave the house that I might have forgotten to lock the door. Or that I left something running.

This prospect of somehow leaving and not knowing that you left a literal human being is just weird. At the same time, I don't have kids yet, so according to JD Vance, what I say doesn't matter anyway.

Yep, apparently the wife even coached their other two daughters to say that he was a good father when interrogated.

I'd love to see some statistics on how often this happened before the introduction of passenger-side airbags, which make it impossible to place an infant/child seat in the front.

I don't have my own kids but do have little niece's and nephews and when they're around I'm always making sure I know where they're at.

You always need to know where your kid is at.

i am forgetful my self all kinds of issues come from that

here is the thing if i had a kid id make damn sure i had safety measures in place and back ups for those safety measures

It's super easy to forget anything if you're in a routine, if you're distracted (actively by something in your field of view or just mentally preoccupied with something else in life going on), if you thought you did something and your brain checks it off as done, among other possibilities. Even something as simple as checking a new notification on your phone can distract you for just long enough to get onto something else.

Now, obviously, this situation is a little different given he initially left her intentionally. I'd say he deserves to be punished but idk if any punishment will match the guilt he'll be saddled with for life.

Tragic all around.

Before I had kids I used to read these headlines and wonder how on earth anyone could be that incompetent. I know it is (mostly) an American problem but many people forget the phrase "It takes a village (to raise kids)" but its true. We're not really meant to raise kids non-communally.

I can kinda understand it. Kids are routine destroyers and once you do something unusual it throws off the rest of your day.

That said I do not believe this guy forgot his daughter. He intentionally left her in the car with the AC on because she was asleep and didn't want to disturb her. After he went inside the car had some auto shut off mechanism that obviously killed the AC and since he was inside playing video games he didn't notice.

As a side note, you should never sleep in a running car with or without AC. If there's even a small CO leak, you will die. You won't even know it's happening and by the time you realize something is wrong, if you do at all, it's too late.

This dude left his daughter in the Arizona sun to play video games for 3 hours. I could see making some kind of argument if he went inside to unload groceries and fell asleep or something, and even then he should be charged, but this guy deserves no sympathy. First degree murder, "an extreme level of recklessness that showed indifference to human life", that's him.
