A little bit

I'd respect them more if they weren't such trigger-happy cowards and actually put their lives on the line instead of everyone else's

no.

I hold respect for individuals, including individual police enforcement that I feel deserve it. not for the profession itself.

Police officers? It depends on the individual officer.

American Policing as an institution? Overall no.

Solely because they don't just tolerate the bad apples, they cover them up.

If Officer A hurts an innocent person and Officer B reports him, Officer B is much more likely to suffer punishment than Officer A.... I can in way respect that

This.

In my country, the police does a good job, so most people respect them.

While there are definitely major overarching issues that need to be rectified, I always see it as strange to act like the police are one cohesive unit. It depends entirely on the what town, county, and state youre in.

Pretty much this.

If I had to be honest, my track record with personal interactions with the police has actually been positive for the most part. Only thing short of that was a time waster of a profiling. I could tell he wasn't looking to make anything out of anything, but it was like he was trying to meet a quota to say he did check out an area.

That's what's strange to you? Not that the same problems we see in New York, we see in Los Angeles, in Minnesota, in Minneapolis, in Ferguson, in Chicago, in Cleveland, in North Charleston, in Baltimore, etc. etc. etc.

It's happening all over the country, and the way the police deal with these issues is fairly uninformed all over the country. To me that's the strange thing, these are NOT isolated incidents in one or two counties, nor are the limp dick responses the police unions have to dealing with "bad apples"

There are individual officers and probably individual towns/counties that are great, but the blue shield is a nation wide problem.

The topic asks how do you feel about "the police" well the The Police is a pretty big group, individual ones might be fine, but as an American institution, there are some major problems.

And that's putting it lightly.
