Gross, yeah that stream somehow ended up the top recommended thing on my YouTube homepage when I go out of my way to not watch anything political on there so not sure how that got suggested.

I checked why Trump's ancestors came to America to see if there would be an ironic twist of fate where they were seeking asylum. But as it turns out his grandfather left Bavaria to avoid conscription. So it was completely on brand for the family.

That sounds like the sort of thing that's happened within the US. Throw patients out of the facilities, maybe give them a bus ticket so they're no longer your problem...

Alright not just me then, have had a few pop up today. Enough that I went into my history to make sure I didn't accidentally watch some alt right videos to trigger it, but nope nothing there.

I don't get fed any far right stuff on youtube, but ever since GamerGate (10 years ago) I've been careful to not click on that stuff cause I knew some left leaning people who clicked on alt right stuff to make responses to it it, and got fed tons more alt right stuff afterwards.

I did do a youtube collab a while back where I had to respond to some "sacred geometry" weirdo, but I opened that in a different browser so that it wouldn't screw up my recommendations.

YouTube works on trying to find videos that the user might want to watch when they open the site or app, and they go very heavy on watch history for that.

If you ignore that stuff when it pops up itll eventually filter itself out.

I have premium and youtube is by far the best and most controllable algorithm out there. I get no alt right stuff at all, barely even in related videos. Maybe it only works well with premium, and that's their value proposition.

I've had YouTube Premium for years and encounter no-alt right stuff at all. Plenty of ANTI alt-right stuff.

This too. It's constantly testing new genres with you. If you click one then it goes hard on it and starts "soft" subscribing you to channels in that genre. If you watch a few from one channel, you're effectively subscribed until you say Don't Recommend.

If you are following all this Fox 24/7 news garbage that's posted ITT, you will 100% get alt right videos on your feed.

ehhhhh - if you watch like movie/tv commentary stuff YouTube will *always* be trying to recommend you the shitlords in the field. They may stop for a bit but they always come back.

I think I only really watch Normies reacts and lilfunnygalreacts but every now, particularly around the time a Star Wars show they'll try again with hey are you sure you don't wanna be watching count dankula?????

I've never used that. If I click on something I don't want on accident, I hit back ASAP since I know the Youtube algorithm absolutely obsesses over stuff like watchtime. (But ideally best to not click on it at all).

Walz has apparently overtaken Shapiro in the online betting odds. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but I can't help feeling hopeful.

My heart was for Walz as soon as I read about him, but I sense that a ton of people feel the same way... enough that he might be the better choice overall. He seems to be squeaky clean and his folksy nature compliments Harris well. Apart from decades of teaching and military service, Walz just looks like the nice old man who'll happily talk to you about model trains for an hour - THAT IS WHAT HER CAMPAIGN NEEDS.

It would be tougher to get excited for Shapiro, and excitement is what the Harris campaign should keep pushing for.

They're just not having it at all. I give it less than 48 hours before Trump backs out of his own fake Fox debate.
