It's not like I follow the game closely or anything, but it feels like I'm always hearing bad news about the game itself. But, I guess people still like it a lot.

I've seen this posted a lot today and it's a shame because it's such a stupid clickbait article. So many people are saying "Overwatch is reverting back to 6v6!" and that's not what's happening at all.

Overwatch 2 has done these limited time events every once in a while where they change the gameplay rules as experiments or just for fun. For example, last week they added perks you could give each character to change their playstyle. Another one they did a while back was cutting respawn times and heavily speeding up objective progress for faster games. It's possible that these things could have, or will, be added to the game permanently, but that's not specifically the point. They're just events that are also used to record data on how changes like that affect the game.

What they said today was, because of all the discourse about 6v6 going around, they are considering doing a test event in the future (most likely the far future due to technical reasons) that addresses 6v6 gameplay. This will probably include a revert to a standard 6v6 ruleset, but may also include events that run 6v6 with other gameplay changes, or events that stick with 5v5 but make changes to address the problems people have with that format. They are NOT simply going back to OW1 gameplay like people keep saying; even as a test these events are temporary.

I get a lot of people are disappointed in Overwatch these days, and there are plenty of legitimate criticisms about the game (how come we aren't talking about the $60 weapon skin they just came out with?), but I really hate how often clickbait like this spreads around and everyone blindly jumps on the discourse with bad takes because everyone wants to dogpile on the hatewatch.
