Even though the narrator says orca attacks are rare, I'd still be nervous if I was that swimmer. I'd feel safer with dolphins

A diver found some wild orcas today. A domesticated orca could have slipped in during a spontaneous moment, however, and the diver would not notice.

Probably thought he was a seal and wanted to do some seal volleyball, but looks like he got himself up near some shallow rocks or something and they decided to fuck off.

Factoid: When an orca becomes too inferm to swim in the deep ocean, it sinks to death. It just sinks down into the abyss and implodes. Poof! No more orca. I imagine orcas call death the Big Sink, the Great Going Down, the Terminal Implosion.

But yeah I would have been terrified to see that. Great white sharks aren't apex predators precisely because orcas like shark liver.

My understanding is that while they're an apex predator? They don't tend to go after humans.

Kudos for calling them 'orcas', TC. Always thought 'killer whale' was pejorative. They're just trying to live their lives, like everything else on the planet.

Fwiw, I think those yacht attacks are because some asshat in a yacht (I know, hard to believe. /s) did some shit first.

The other theory someone had is that the loudness of boats and yachts disturbs the orcas and causes a lot of noise pollution, so that's why they attack as a way of telling the yachteers to "shut the hell up"

if some rich people have to have propellers fucked with to stop the noise. it's only a small sacrifice to pay.

The interesting thing about that (to me) is that older orcas have been observed teaching younger orcas how to do it. Showing them exactly where to ram it. Big brains.

I read an article a few months back saying scientists who study Orcas are pretty sure that the idea that a yacht hurt one of them and they are out for revenge is a myth. They think that because the animals are playful, one of them bothered a boat and it was fun, so now it is a trend and they keep doing it.

I write this not to contradict you, I just think the behavior is interesting.

There is so much wrong with the post you just made. Captive orcas are not tame, and theyre the only recorded instance of human deaths because they were depressed and angry about being kept in ridiculously small containment. Theyre highly intelligent and emotional animals.

This is the real reason. Its a fad for the orcas and theyll soon move on to something else. Dolphins do the same thing.

Taming is the conditioned behavioral modification of a wild-born animal when its natural avoidance of humans is reduced and it accepts the presence of humans

If they're in a tank doing tricks and dealing with human commands, they're tame by definition. Maybe not domesticated, but tame.

Captive orcas deal with people every day, multiple times a day. Wild ones may see a human in the water once or never. I still wouldn't want to be approached by one. Like people they have their own personalities so I'd just assume they're all potential killers and stay out of their habitat.

Although not an orca, I'm not risking some shit like that. You could dive with 1000 whales then get that one.

Ancient man must have made a blood pact with the Orcas to have made them so docile to us. Like how do they not even try to see what we taste like?

Figure out the answer to that and why that african salt water king fish, a solitary predator, form schools of hundreds and swim in procession up a river before swimming in massive fish spirals and then returning to the ocean (on this trip they do not feed, mate, or lay eggs), and you might be on to something.

I mean, there is literally observed and reported evidence of them playing with animals they plan to kill. Yes, they're carnivores because they need to eat, however they choose to be dicks. They also kill more than they need to feed themselves. Killing excessively puts them on equal footing with humans, the ultimate killers.

I remember learning the difference between tame and domesticated when reading about foxes and whether they could be either

I think orcas at sea world are technically tame, but staying in a space about one 1000000th smaller than their usual living area fucked them up mentally

Its basically permanent solitary confinement
