This was the cover of the first issue apparently. That sinister portrait of Superman in shadow is a pretty aptly prophetic image of things to come especially after zack snyder got his mittens on the character and tried to poorly emulate Nolan while missing the point (not to mention all the story beats) --- http://i.imgur.com/0UFI0T9.jpg ... Is that supposed to be a redneck Superman or something? Grant Morrison was on Action Comics at the beginning of the New 52. He attempted to take Superman back to original 1938 version. His Superman couldn't fly and was pretty much how he was back then including being more focused on stopping more mundane threats. It didn't last very long and honestly the new 52 Superman sucks in general (not so much because of this but everything else that was done with him) and it was a blessing when they brought back the "true" Superman (even if the storyline to make it happen is ridiculous) --- "How can.. the Prime minister.. support a law.. that makes it illegal for people.. who....What I'm trying to say is.. For me the best New 52 had to offer were Animal Man, Dial H, Azarello's Wonder Woman and Remire's Green Arrow. Though there are likely a few I enjoyed that I'm forgetting at this point. ... Batgirl? I was a fan of Swamp Thing and Phantom Stranger. But hearing Azarello did a run on Wonder Woman (I wasn't paying attention to the Big Three, really), I may have to go pick it up. But hearing Azarello did a run on Wonder Woman (I wasn't paying attention to the Big Three, really), I may have to go pick it up. It focuses more heavily on Diana's connection to the Greek Pantheon. Was during the time she wasn't made of clay, but a straight up daughter of Zeus. I mostly loved it for the depictions of the Greek gods. Like Ares being a tired old man due to never ending wars. And I absolutely adore the depiction of Hades https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/4/46f7ba63.jpg DnDer posted... Something about them being noir? Haven't read much Swamp Thing myself beyond the New 52 run, but my guess is that the popularity primarily came from Alan Moore's run along with the fact that it was pretty much the catalyst for DC's Vertigo imprint which featured more mature books compared to the regular superhero antics of the main line. ... Some of the best New 52 titles were the ones that sold extremely poorly that went back to how DC used to be until the 80's with the different genre titles. I, Vampire and All-Star Western were my favorite things out of the New 52 and both didn't sell very well (both of which could have been done without rebooting everything as well).

Action Comics by Grant Morrison was pretty damn good. The main Superman book and the latter part of Action Comics got close. Then they both stepped up when the DC Rebirth era started.

Something about them being noir? My love for Swamp Thing came out of being exposed to Vertigo. But, I was honestly pleased how not-bad the non-Vertigo one was for New 52. Except that last couple... Future's End or something? With The Metal? I barely remember it except, "Now this is silly, because that can't possibly be an Elemental force. The Grey was really pushing it, but it somehow worked. This? This is sharks and jumping territory." What an awful wrap on N52 Swampy. --- What has books ever teached us? -- Captain Afrohead Subject-verb agreement. -- t3h 0n3 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Never read to the end of N52 Swamp Thing, but Futures End was an event where things went to hell 5 years from the present. There would have been a 1 shot issue of Swamp Thing of that alternate future, and it just expands on the Futures End series which was a weekly book for like 48 or 50 issues.
