In another sign of Donald J. Trumps grip on the Republican Party, his team wants the partys platform to be a succinct pro-Trump document, not an unnecessarily verbose treatise.

Donald J. Trumps top advisers are planning to drastically scale back and simplify the official platform of the Republican Party, according to a memo sent to the partys platform committee that was reviewed by The New York Times.

The memo signed by Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, the former presidents two lead advisers described their efforts to pare down the platform to ensure our policy commitments to the American people are clear, concise and easily digestible. It dismissed past platforms as needlessly textbook-long documents shaped by special interest influence that had left the party and its nominee open to attacks from Democrats.

Publishing an unnecessarily verbose treatise will provide more fuel for our opponents fire of misinformation and misrepresentation to voters, the memo read. It is with that recognition that we will present a streamlined platform in line with President Trumps principled and popular vision for Americas future.

The memo was sent on Thursday ahead of the G.O.P.s gathering in Milwaukee next month, where it will first vote on its platform and then hold its national convention to select a presidential nominee.

The decision to cut the size of the platform sharply the most recent one adopted by the party, in 2016, ran nearly 60 pages is likely to prompt skirmishes among some conservatives and party activists who have spent years haggling over the documents language. One person close to the process who was granted anonymity to speak about the planning said the new platform could be half the size of the one in 2016.

Anti-abortion activists, in particular, have been gearing up for a fight in case the Trump team seeks to dilute or delete longstanding language in order to make Mr. Trump appear more moderate on the issue.

In hopes of keeping any disagreements out of the public view, the party is planning to have the platform committee meet behind closed doors in Milwaukee a week before the broader convention. That would be a break from decades of precedent. The partys platform committee meetings have been televised since at least 1984, according to C-SPAN archives.

By closing the process, Mr. LaCivita and Ms. Wiles argue that they will reject any special interest influence that seeks to make public policy stray from our clear and straightforward objectives.

Mr. Trump had considered shrinking the platform in 2020 but ultimately abandoned the idea.

The memo makes clear that the Trump team sees the Republican National Committee platform almost exclusively as a tool to outline a contrast with President Biden in the 2024 race rather than as a way to set longer-term goals for the party.

If we do not provide voters with clarity on the binary choice between President Trumps and Republicans leadership versus that of Joe Biden and the Democrats, no one will do it for us, they wrote, calling the platform a contract with the American voter that makes clear what we can and will deliver under a President Trump administration.

Newt Gingrich, the Republican former House speaker who called his own legislative agenda the Contract with America, has been among those who have pushed for a streamlined platform that he said should be a Trump document.

He said voters across the country should be able to look at it and say, Wow, this is a good thing.

Worst people you know makes a good point.

Well, at least until they get into the rest of that bullshit. This kernel doesn't remotely make up for Trump basically wanting to be a king at this point.

Only thing missing is Trump wanting to rename the country 'Trumpland' or some shit.

I thought they already did this for the 2020 election? Abandon the party platform and pledge allegiance to Donald Trump.

I've legit thought about this far more than I should.

The options are basically

Trump Jr, keep the brand. I remember people wanting Jr. to run in 2024 if Trump won in 2020. That may have just been a 'own the libs' thing though, idk.

Ron DeSantis - The cult won't follow him, but the GOPers will. He's got the charisma of a bag of dog shit left out in the rain, but that wont' stop the GOP from getting firmly behind him. I'll be honest, if he won the nomination, he'd be President full stop in November. Zero doubt in my mind, especially after how Biden performed at the debate. Zero doubt. Ronny boy could have been President if Trump just fucked off after losing in 2020. And honestly that's fucking hilarious to me. Fuck you ShitStain.

Someone else as crazy and ridiculous. None of the current crop of Republican Senators or House members would work, it'd have to be someone else off the grid like Trump. Elon, Bezos, someone like that. Someone who has a cult like personality around them already, that people would follow. Hell even Andrew Tate could pick up where Trump left off. Milquetoast won't win a national election or galvanize the Republican base anymore. They want pieces of shit who'll tell them everything they want to hear and tell their opposition to fuck off. Tom Cotton isn't doing that. Josh Hawley isn't doing that. Ted Cruz isn't doing that. Jim Jordan isn't doing that. MTG has a better shot at winning a national election than those turds.

There is a dark horse here and while it doesn't make sense after what I said about Cotton, Hawley, and the rest of the fuckwads in Congress, but Rick Scott is someone that wouldn't shock me at all if somehow took over the throne. Somehow this sack of shit has failed upwards consistently throughout life. He's a career criminal who stole billions from Medicare, still got elected governor twice, ruined just about every safety net in Florida for citizens, then got elected Senator, and will be reelected in November. This dude's a literal fucking cockroach who refuses to go away.

I also see Republicans basically using Trump's name to promote things too, like Reaganomics and so on. "I'm a Trump era Republican, and I believe in racism and bigotry" shit like that. They'll use Trump's name and brand long after he's dead until they can galvanize around someone else.

translation: he wants the GOP policy platform to be short and simple enough for him to read through while he's taking a s*** on his golden toilet, and to contain enough instances of his name evenly interspersed throughout so as to hold his attention

It will just be" WHITE IS MIGHT MIGHT IS RIGHT!!!" By the end of it.

Feels like most of them are just going to devolve into a terrorist group that just wants to make everything burn at this point...most of them clearly hate the very idea of anyone telling them what to do and it does feel like a few just want to get there hands on the nukes and keep killing till everyone is out of the way.
