As a kid I would have said Sunday because calendars and pay periods meant nothing to me. My singular focus was school and to me my week started on Monday and ended Sunday.

Now as an adult I have a different perception. My pay period for the week is Sunday through Saturday and goes by the Calendar. I only get paid once a month but for the purposes of figuring overtime the weekly pay period is based on Sunday through Saturday.

It gets even more complicated for me as I don't have a traditional Monday through Friday work week. My days off are Monday and Tuesday and my work week starts on Wednesdays and ends on Sundays. My full week including days off ends on Tuesday. In fact I'm at work right now.

But ultimately I go by the pay period. I just submitted my time card for the week a couple hours ago.

They're both called weekends because each one is at a different end of the week

Like how when you use a set of bookends you put one on either side of the books, or when you have two endtables you put one on each side of the couch instead of both on the same side

Then why do they call Sunday School at some churches First Day School?

This weird British thing of putting monday as the first day of the week annoys the hell out of me. If you want to drive on the wrong side of the road, measure peoples' weight with giant rocks and pour baked beans on everything, do it on your own time.

...How does that even make sense? Book shelves absolutely have a beginning, and an end. You have a first book on the shelf (sunday), and a last book on the shelf (saturday). Hence, bookends. If bookshelves didn't have a beginning, you could have an infinite number of books stretching out on one side of the shelf.

You're the one trying to say the last book on the shelf is actually the first book.

you're assigning arbitrary beginnings and ends to directions, you could look at a bookshelf starting from the right and it's the same as if you started from the left

but y'all are telling me Sunday, the end of the week, vol 7, is actually vol 1. so think about that when you tell me I'm saying last is first

Sunday is Volume 1, Saturday is volume 7. We're not saying Sunday is both 1 AND 7. You're the one saying that because you realized your "weekend can only mean last" argument failed.
