I've heard it's an exceptional show, but I really can't handle to hyper-realistic gore and violence from some of the scenes I watched. Plus Homelander is terrifying. I get legitimately uncomfortable when he's in the scene (which I'm sure is the intent). I still wanna know how he's gonna die though so I'll probably be keeping an eye on the spoilers when it happens.

This show is not for you then.
It's just a show, you can live without knowing it exists. You can just not watch it if you don't like the gore.

Like Street Fighter or Tekken players are not interested in Mortal Kombat and it's perfectly fine.

It's a tasteless show based on a tasteless story. Youre not missing much if it puts you off, but I will say the cast is superb all around and make the absolute most of every scene. It's quality trash in a John Waters sense.

I do agree the cast and acting seemed top notch. The main villain really sold it

I watch it but sometimes I have to take breaks. I remember one ime I realized something was about to happen. And I ended up stopping the show and I didn't get back to it for like a week when I felt ready

It was the male genital explosion scene. The guy who shrinks and.....yea

It's a show with a lot of shock value and normally it's shit like that makes me not want to watch the show. The main thing that I loved about season 1-3 was that it tackled interesting ideas in the super hero genre that most other Super hero shows don't go into. There's also some really great dialogue and character moments with a lot of great payoff (except season 3 finale, that was a load of baloney).

my girlfriend binged it, and it seemed like generic awful superhero shit to me. Only thing that stood out was the over the top gore, which im assuming is the reason people like it

Yeah it's a little extreme but thankfully nowhere near as nasty as the comic (I love Garth Ennis as a writer, but I can't really recommend that comic to anyone).

I'd suggest sticking with it a little longer just to see if you change your mind. It's a really fun show, and one of the few instances where the adaptation is vastly superior to the source material.

Yeah, if you're not a fan of realistic gore, then this is not the show for you. There's a ton of it. Homelander does an incredible job at being menacing though.

But if you can handle animated gore, then Invincible is another great super hero show on Amazon. It's just as gore heavy though, so be warned.

I watched almost all the first season and then stopped.

It wasnt the gore, I just couldn't get into it for reasons that aren't clear to me. One of those things, I guess.

I did enjoy Invincible.

Same. I stopped nearly at the end of season 2, because of the sudden, out-of-no-where extreme violence that happens. Scared the shit out of me the first episode of season 2.

I still would like to continue watching the series someday as I was really getting into it at the time, and I'm someone who particularly doesn't like superhero shows and movies much. It felt like a very refreshing take on the genre.

It's actually "superheros are fascists" which itself is pretty common trope at this point.

Yes, but also superheroes are just products is another angle that I find very interesting.

The parts of the show depicting Vought and Supes as a business and products are ten times more interesting than literally any other part of the show.

Oh yeah, the good product and PR angle. Thats more unique. There are still a few others I recall seeing with similar themes like Bioshock and Resident Evil.

You'll get used to it, if you push through it. i think it tones down a little with each season, tbough I'm only on season 4, episode 2.

But that's up to you

The gore isnt the only reason people like the show.

Its the tension. The show does a great job of building it.
