You don't have to be weird about it.

This is why the WNBA should embrace having somebody who is viewed as a superstar, no matter how fair they think it is. Caitlin Clark is singlehandedly driving their paycheck potential upward dramatically.

I'm pretty sure there were really good white woman basketball players in the WNBA before Clark. I think people are mostly excited since she is one of the best, if not the best college basketball player of all time. Some people just love pushing "race war" stuff as a proxy to aspects of culture.

Holy shit, 16k in 30 minutes is crazy. She's definitely a legitimate draw. Is 4,200 low for a WNBA arena? I looked up Clark's home arena and it holds 17k.

Anyway, she scored 30 so the people got their money's worth too

*Answered my own question. According to Sportskeeda, WNBA arenas on average can hold 12,435 people. The smallest arena is the Atlanta Dream's Gateway Center that holds 3,500.

Knock it off

This is a good boost to all players. Having that one spark of interest as well as a culture that's starting to reflect outward and you have a good recipe for success. Helps that she's really talented

The whole "culture war" aspect that has always surrounded her is also a big part of the insanely large following. People love controversy and they are getting off the Twitter to see it in person.

I don't think that's true. People who support the culture war aspect are more likely to not want to spend a dime to actually support it, they just want to be loud on the internet

What's driving ticket sales is that people love seeing history and Caitlin Clark has been in the news a ton lately for breaking history

People love being able to say "I saw X"

Has one person done this for a sport or league before? Most of the US stars in the last few decades were in leagues that were already huge.

For wrestling, I know back in the day Bruno Sammartino would draw huge crowds, though I don't know if his presence alone could make a 5:1 difference.

The fact that she can pull up from the logo like Steph Curry and drain a 3 is pretty damn amazing. There is a reason why she's so popular.

LeBron had a pretty noticeable impact on the NBA since viewership was kinda dwindling at the time, but yeah it wasn't really comparable since the NBA was already popular before that.

I remember Sidney Crosby single handedly generating tons of hype when he entered the league. "Tons" as in comparison to the regular amount of hype hockey gets
