Have you?

Federal minimum wage currently is $7.25. That equates to $1,160/month at 40 hours/week and a total of $13,920/year. I know it might not be wholly realistic to expect (consistent) 40 hour weeks at a minimum wage job, but these are just basic numbers for reference.

I've only had my one job, which is salaried and has benefits so I've always made more than minimum wage.

Summer job while in grad school. My family owned a small, independent gas station/convenience store. I worked the register and as a maintenance person.

It was an important life experience for me both in dealing with the public and respect for those thankless workers that keep society functioning.

My first job started at minimum wage, I got a few raises in the first few years, and then just stopped getting raises, so minimum wage was starting to catch up to me.

My current job started at about minimum wage (might have been a tiny bit more, but not by much). I get a raise every 500 hours worked, but the raises are small enough that for a while there minimum wage kept catching up to me, but last year my union made a new agreement, so that when minimum wage goes up, all of our wages go up by the same amount. It was also retroactive, so we all (other than recent hires) got a wage increase when it happened.

As a note, I live in Canada, and specifically Manitoba, so minimum wage here is currently $15.30/hour, and it goes up every October.

Less. And younger than legal too.

It was for my dad, which is some kind of loophole.

I remember I worked for minimum at a DQ as a teen. The minimum wage was increased and the owner counted that as giving me a raise.

Only as a teenager in school. Never as an adult.

Im not even sure if it would be possible where I live now. Despite federal minimum wage being $7.25 the absolute lowest teenage jobs around here hire on at around $12 to $14 these days from everything I have seen. And I live in bumfuck nowhere in the Midwest where cost of living is low.

To be fair, it's been at that level for so long that I don't at all blame CEmen for just never stopping to wonder exactly how long.

For example, old people always used to talk about how Russia used to be called the USSR, and in my brain that was just sort of in that mishmash of time before I was born/aware of things, so it surprised me to learn that the Soviet Union actually fell during my lifetime.

Likewise, I can totally see people who don't remember the last time minimum wage rose just sort of filing that away in the mishmash of stuff that happened an irrelevantly long time ago.

I've worked for sub-minimum wage + tips a lot. Also had a courier job which paid per delivery, under the table. When i added up the hours and pay it definitely was working out to below minimum wage most of the time, so I didn't stay there long.

Yep, at a Salvation Army thrift store.

Thanks to my aunt being a top regional manager at the time, I only worked on Saturdays, so as expected, I built up money slowly.

Needless to say, I don't miss it at all.

Yes, at my internship I had to do for college in my early 20s. The shitty thing was it was originally non-paid one, but they offered me minimum wage a few weeks in since they wanted me to stick around longer. Man, I hated that job.

It's pretty pathetic that the minimum wage is still the same rate that it was 10 years ago when I was at this job. My state is shit and refuses to raise it.

I was a bagger then a cashier at a grocery store from 16-18. I was laid 5.25/hour I believe. Then 6.10 i think, when Texas raised their minimum wage.

No. First job started at $28 an hour, but that was at 26.

Maybe if you count a graduate assistantship in grad school, but I dont think Id count a stipend as a wage as it wasnt a regular pay check or anything.
