My favorite part is when Palpy shoots force lightning at Mace Windu and Windu is reflecting it back at him, and for some reason Palpy doesn't stop shooting lightning, and Anakin brings up the very valid point that he needs to be tried but Mace is just like NUH UH so Anakin throws him out the window and then he's all like what have I done?!

Uh... rescued a man from execution without trial? That's a GOOD THING bro.

And the reason Anakin felt guilty was because he caused a fellow Jedi to die and the rest of the Council would never forgive him

Nah, man, both these scenes are hot garbage. The Mace v. Palpatine fight is legitimately one of the worst duels in the entire saga - goofy faces, terrible dialogue (though what else is new with the PT), and the choreography really only makes any sense at all if you buy the theory that Palpatine was deliberately throwing to Mace in order to convert Anakin to his cause.

As for the opening, I'll never understand how anyone can watch that and think it's exciting. I'll admit that the dynamic camera shots are a nice touch, but that's literally the only thing about it that's any good (other than John Williams's soundtrack, of course - he, at least, never lost his touch with these movies). It feels less like a Star Wars battle and more like a Star Fox level, zipping along on rails while pretty explosions go off. The battle has no set-up, since we're dropped in right in the middle of it, and we never get any sense of the relative strength of the forces at play. Does the CIS have the advantage? Does the Republic? What's at stake here? Clearly something, because "Somehow, Palpatine [was captured]", but then why are the CIS still fighting and not escaping with their prize? And on that note, why should I care that Palpatine is a prisoner when he's literally the mastermind behind both sides and we've known that since the first fuckin' movie? How does the fight progress? It seems like the Republic eventually win, but we never see any point where it's obvious the CIS is on the ropes. The scene is all flash and no substance (and even the visuals don't look so hot anymore - they were impressive when they first came out, but now they, like most of the CGI in the prequels, look like the very best a launch-era PS3 game had to offer). And, of course, the battle runs into the same issue that plagues the entire concept of the clone wars as Lucas set it up: why does any of this matter and why should anyone care when both sides consist of 99% infinitely replaceable combat automata (droids for the CIS, clones for the Republic) that, once again, are being overseen by a single guy playing both sides for his own ends? The clone wars are ultimately just Palpatine running a gigantic Warhammer game against himself, then saying, "I win! I claim the galaxy as my prize."

Yeah, this movie is awful...

What on earth are you on about? This is the movie that a significant chunk of the fanbase keeps propping up as 'the good one' out of the prequels. It's perfectly relevant to point out that a very stupid scene is made profoundly stupider by said fanbase's attempts to handwave it, and why many years ago it was the straw that broke the camel's back to make me go "y'know what, I think I'm done being so deeply invested in this universe / franchise."
