I don't know if this is actually true but it's something I noticed.

There are a few youtubers I like that mainly play Mario Maker. Now that is one thing. Honestly Mario Maker does get a bit stale when you're watching video after video of Mario Maker. But anyway, moving on. Watching those youtubers has led to similar youtubers being recommended.

It seems that youtubers who play Nintendo games rarely if ever step outside of that Nintendo circle. Is this because of themselves? They only like Nintendo games? Or because of their fans/the algorithm. The youtubers know if they tried playing non-Nintendo games it would be bad for their popularity.

I wish these youtubers that I do enjoy had more variety. Also I could be wrong but I think that Nintendo youtubers are the majority of gaming youtubers to begin with

Or is the algorithm just recommending youtubers that only play Nintendo games because it assumes that is what you want based on what you were watching? The world may never know.

isn't it weird how people who like a game play that game?

That's their niche.

It's like how there are Minecraft youtubers and FPS youtubers.

Some do full variety but some like to pick a niche and stick to it for their branding. Nintendo happens to have an especially loyal fanbase compared to Playstaytion and Xbox, so that helps.

Sounds to me like the Youtube algorithm is just preferentially feeding you more videos of the same types you've already watched. When you watch those, that reinforces the algorithm's belief that that's what you want, so you get more like that. Mario Maker in particular is likely to be more restrictive than most other games because there are relatively few games like it out there, so that's probably also limiting what you see.

If you branch out into different sorts of games (particularly games that are less unique), the variety will increase.

They generally make a second channel for that because that's how you do the algorithm right. Some of them are just built that way mentally.

I get it though, as a viewer, you might really want a certain kind of gameplay over and over from a certain person. Especially people who are just really good at one game. Kripparian was the #1 ranked Hearthstone arena player in the world for a little bit, and he wasn't even really trying.

It's in the name.... they're Nintendo youtubers! To be more specific, Nintendo is kind of in its own gaming bubble. I'm essentially a Nintendo only gamer myself because I like their ethos and the mainstream AAA gaming landscape doesn't appeal to me. I want colorful, creative platformers, not realistic, grim dark movie games.

They're "Nintendo adults", they can't cope with an evolving world and responsibilities so they regress to childhood. Playing something mature like Doom 2 or the Sims would shatter that frail fantasy.
