Many scenes were literally page for page out of the book dialogue and everything was pretty focused. But with a story this large with this many characters and many different lands it was never going to be able to be done properly on a show. So many things were altered, characters removed or combined, personalities changed, ages changed, entire elements and backstories gone. People always want to complain about the end and talk about how the other seasons were great but this show was off the rails years earlier. Basically around season 4 I think it falls apart in the show completely. But I'm also very forgiving and early on I just completely disassociated the show from the books and just took it as some mindless entertainment. Overall I was fine with it, including the final season. Ultimately I was just there to watch my two favorite characters talk shit. Tyrion and The Hound. They were better in the beginning but overall with what they were given I thought they brought the characters to life for me and enjoyed the portrayals. What a damn shame. Hopefully George R.R finishes the books and help some studio remake seasons 6-8. LinkDaLunatic 05/26/24 9:49:30 PM #39:	Ending was so bad I haven't gone back since, and I'm the type to rewatch shows I like rather than watching new things. So many of the threads throughout the story were leading in such clear directions just to have the writers completely spin them another way at the last minute. Felt like they were deliberately trying to crash the show, or were just trying to subvert every established expectation. The only drastic shift in character they did somewhat foreshadow was Dany turning insane... but it happened so suddenly I cannot say it was properly set up. Everything else, from Jaime running back to his sister all the way to Jon just fucking off to Castle Black, from Tyrion drinking stupid loser juice to Bran apparently having the best story and being fit to be king. Speaking of kings, the Night King sure was just the boss lich, wasn't he? Nothing special, no purpose, no grand reveals, nothing. Just a generic fantasy villain for the sake of it, in a world of nuanced characters and intricate writing, and his death was as anti-climactic as his life. Oh god, I don't know if I've got some of these details foggy but it sure does suck even thinking about this again. I still love that show and consider the earlier seasons some of the best TV ever, and while the last season was very disappointing I probably didn't hate it as much as other people did. Mainly I noticed the dip in high quality dialog, and especially the smart characters like Varys suddenly becoming quite dumb with both their actions and their dialog.
