Is it just that an omnibus is hardcover while a compendium isnt? I thought that an omnibus typically has more content, but I recently stumbled across a Batman Beyond compendium. It appears to have just as much content as an omnibus, but is paperback

An omnibus is usually very big. Oversized pages hardcover, and a huge page count. Like around 1,000 pages sometimes. Not sure on what defines a compendium

I've only ever seen "compendium" used by Image Comics, and when it's used like that it's almost always identical to an omnibus. An omnibus is all-encompassing, usually collecting every single story related to whatever comic it's about; for example, the Infinite Crisis trade paperback collects only Infinite Crisis, and the Infinite Crisis omnibus collects all tie-ins and crossovers with the Infinite Crisis branding. I've also seen "Absolute" as branding for something between the two.
