Xethuminra 05/26/24 3:26:56 AM #14:	Triggered hard Tbf, tho, the original New Hope (which ive seen, take it or leave it) looks surprisingly bad for what it is (a really fun miniatures and models film for kids, ...with a theatrical twist (like the blocking and clever use of panels for backgrounds and special effects) plus Shakespearean & Arthurian dialogue in general, landmark special effects film, etc But shoddy in a kind of Space Odyssey way, you know? Like Thomas the Tank business haha Hence why Empire Strikes Back looks the way it does. The fog. The stop motion feel of parts of Hoth, and how impressive that whole thing really was, as the premier battle of the movie, but it gets really personal, and the whole look of everything from the asteroid field to Cloud City and Yoda, it's not surprising the original Star Wars looked the way it does, and suddenly I think the changes make a lot more sense (like how the Emperor originally looked in Empire, which I'm not clear when that was cut out or whathaveyou) and for Return of the Jedi which takes miniatures to the max, going inside the Death Star, building a giant forest, and blowing up actual buildings, not to mention those magical desert sequences . Of course the lightning at the end is famous, Vader looks incredible, and so on and so forth. Arguably thanks to this movie we got another decade or so or more of puppets and stop motion, claymation, etc Omg why isn't Jedi known for the Rancor more? Not very appealing tbh, compared to what we got in later releases of Star Wars I guess the Rebels are just like that in the original. Can't quite cover it up haha Can I say it's also kinda creepy? Yeah, Lucas was a real dick about the original releases. It sucks that we'll probably never have an official theatrical release of the movies restored to the way they originally were shown. And that the digital releases are all the special edition. That the closest we have is an un-remastered copy of the laser disc version, which doesn't look good on modern TVs--I mean, the version they legally released on DVD was 4:3 for Christ's sake. Also if you're a purist, the video / laser disc versions are slightly altered from the theatrical release. His refusal to even let anyone try give the fans a legally available high quality version of the theatrical release--and acting like we were entitled for even wanting them--is the only thing he did that ever made me angry. Maybe forever (or while it's still under copyright), maybe only for as long as he's alive. Might have to wait for 2072 when ANH's copyright expires.
