Like, surprisingly good. The trailers through me off from all the fanwank, but the script remembers that the family stuff is the real best part of DB.

It's probably the second best film of the Super era (which includes Battle of Gods and Resurrection F).

IMO:
Battle of Gods > Super Hero > Broly > Resurrection F

Ehh, I always dislike how easily it is that Gohan "comes back", feels disrespectful to the dedication to training that the Z Fighters have, but at least it's a good reason.

For me, it showcased a good counterpoint to the Goku and Vegeta's dynamic of hard working underdog vs naturally high potential elite.

Gohan is used to show that even if you have incredible potential, if you don't put work in, you'll still fall behind. He is shown always growing weaker when he stops training, and has to work and train to get back to his peak.

He is the embodiment that potential isn't everything. You still have to work for it.

Gonna wait til I see the movie through, but I suspect your observation will not hold, even as I hope it will.

I want you to read the manga adaption of it,too. It does more with Trunks and Goten as well as Krillin and 18 and has an epilogue chapter that was the last chapter Toriyama had a hand in before his death

Hit me right off. Had to replay a few times, because the facial animation is so true to the panel art that it was literally hard to believe my eyes.

Well, not animation. You know what I mean.

Metallic sound effects on the Gamma's heads is a very nice touch.

Gohan isn't as ridiculously out of shape this time. He's not "keeping up" with his training but he hasn't stopped entirely. He catches Piccolo's first sucker punch, he's stopped noticing the weighted clothes when they come back to him a couple hours later, and we know he was secretly training a technique. So he's out of practice, but getting back to his best is more a matter of mindset and focus than physically getting back into fighting form.

Edit: Did realize you hadn't finished.

Catching a non-serious punch before getting hit by the following one, adapting to a small amount of weights and learning a useless technique isn't being somewhat in shape.

He could have been the skinny twig he was in RoF and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Trunks is the only on with an overtly "nu-AT" style on his face. It's not awful or anything, but it does stick out.

Piccolo was the real star of the movie. The villain was the CGI style they went with.

Alright, overlaying with Gohan's scream from the original Cell fight was an easy way to earn point from me. I can be a sucker.

I'm sorry, but in 50 years I will still be laughing that Gohan Blanco became canon. Context makes it better than just seeing the pic, though.

I don't know if it was intentional, but they got me to feel sympathy for Cell Max, of all things. He's almost entirely mindless and enraged and uncontrollable, but with just enough sense and survival instinct to feel sensible fear. Poor guy never had anything good to live for, just neurons and hormones constantly screaming at him to do things that he knows how to do, but not why he knows them, or for what purpose he does them.

Piccolo is the like the natty-achievable Iroh. Iroh is too good to be, but maybe you can grow up to be Piccolo.

How the video feed from Future Trunks killing Freiza is from Dr.Gero's spy hornets
How Yajirobe has been living in Korin's tower ever since he first climbed up there with Goku back in Dragonball eatin beans so that any time they need them they always have only 1 or 2 of them.
How Dende brought out the water to upgrade Shenron like Kami did back in Dragonball, It's a pity Mr. Popo was cut, guess they didn't want to go through the trouble of creating a model for him just like how they didn't want to go through the trouble of making super saiyan models for Trunks and Goten
If you look at the items Bulma throws aside with her big ass on the screen looking for the dragon radar you can see that one of them is an item from Dr.Slump
Broly and Goku's sparring session is cut from the movie except for the part where Broly starts to lose himself to his rage the sparring session is seen in full in the manga so look forward to that
After decades of not knowing Gohan's trade he's finally been confirmed as a Biologist, namely an insect focused biologist
The cybernetic upgrades on Magneta's body are the same type as the ones Taopaipai had back in Dragonball

It's honestly a really great film and the manga chapters further enhance it IMO Toriyama clearly worked hard on it but I still wonder where his head was when his first conception of Beast was giving Gohan Blue skin to go with his red eyes and white hair, Toriyama seemed really interested in going back to demons given his hard work on promoting Sandland which heavily features demons and Dragonball Daima whose main antagonist is implied to be a demon. It really is a sadness he died at the time he did, the man clearly had a vision for the franchise and was eager to plow ahead.

Bulma's ass is the focus of the majority of shots she's in, and I have nothing horny to say about that.

Man, people latched on to Janet X Piccolo hard. It's kind of funny to me, Yamcha and Tienshenhan have been around long before Piccolo, yet they still matter so little to the point people were mad as hell that despite Tien being in the tournament of power he didn't get any stronger or have any good moments the anime let him eliminate a sniper where as the manga had him shoot a Neo tri beam at Frost and get immediately eliminated along with Krillin, Roshi in both adaptions was the only human on the team who contributed something meaningful
