I've only passed through an airport in Japan and the only thing I took away from that was how nice their toilets are.

In general yes but some of the worst bathrooms I've ever seen were in Japan.

it's not as explicit as some other countries, outside of not wanting foreigners in certain bars. They are now subtle about it. Bigoted in the sense that you won't be seen the same or have the same privileges as a natural born Japanese. I hear it's getting better as time passes by. Japan seems to want more foreigners. Partially due to their declining birth rate.

I've never been there, but I really want to go. I've always been fascinated with Japan ever since I watched the episode of Sesame Street where Big Bird goes there. I had it on VHS and watched it all the time. More than 30 years later, I still have this song stuck in my head lol

Not everyone is it anime either. More of the younger generation thing.

@SpiritSephiroth what's your take now that you have lived their for like 2 months? Is it like you imagined?

Love it. I'm not into anime, more the culture people and way of life. Also love the music and entertainment industry (idols, movies, celebrities ect).

Its so chill in Osaka, and work as well is good. Seriously, if this keeps up, I'm probably not gonna leave and look for an indefinite stay. Probably move to Tokyo next year too.

London really took the life outta me and it feels like I'm recovering here. Granted its only been two months but I had people telling me after a few weeks of work I'd hate it. Have no idea where they were getting that from.

And yes, I've met a few girls and hanging out with them more soon.

Its not outright bigoted. But you can feel that you won't be "one of them". Just like every other culture, such as Arab culture, Pakistani/Indian culture and even Korean. Its not exclusive to Japan.

And that's something I don't really care for. I don't see myself as part of a group identity. I'm my own individual and I've always been, even in London.

One more point, I'm making it a mission NOT to find other foreigners to make friends with. My LINE is full of mostly Japanese people and I'm actively using my Japanese to improve and integrate as much as I can.

I really don't see the point in moving to Japan and then just keeping to a foreigner social bubble for the rest of your life. Its such a pointless thing to do and I've seen others do this.

Yeah, while its true that youll never be seen as Japanese if youre a foreigner, almost all countries have a similar mindset and I find it strange that Japan gets called out for it so often.

Without going into a racial route I think it's the most popular country where being an Anglophone doesn't let you coast through it pretty easily.
