The momentum of a thrusting motion helps to curl more weight. Learned that one the hard way. Doesn't do much for muscle gain though.

Yes, do bench first. Start light (just the bar) for a set to warm up, and then add a bit of weight until you can't knock out 6ish reps. Remember this weight for next time!

It's your first time back, so don't stress too much though. You're essentially just going through some motions to get used to being back. You're mostly just transitioning from not lifting at all to sort of lifting. Your real training will begin in like a week
