As far back as 2010, hell maybe as far back as when AC was first announced, people had dropped suggestions and started clamoring for ancient egypt and also feudal japan. When they actually did ancient egypt, I was shocked. Then I became more shocked when I ended up loving it and considered fun with possibly the best protagonist in the series, rivaling even Ezio.

But the fact that now they've finally closed the loop, done all the suggestions... it's pretty crazy how far we've come. What else did people ask for? AC in space? Modern day AC?

Modern day AC?

It doesn't matter to me anymore as long as Ubisoft is involved but I actually liked the modern day story and hoped we would one day get a game where we play as Desmond. For obvious reasons that's never going to happen.

But there's still a lot of possibilities.

Han Dynasty game would probably be my next choice.

Yeah I would have loved it if they had stuck with that original plan to have Desmond become a modern day assassin. I'm not a fan of what they've done with the modern day segments since then

Way back, my top three choices of setting were Latin America, Old West and Russia.

They had like one level of a side game in Mexico, and one of those crappy Chronicles games in Russia, but the main games have been like:

Middle East
Europe
Europe
Kinda Europe
USA
Caribbean
North Atlantic
Europe again
More Europe
Egypt
Europe, just a long time ago
Europe, also a long time ago

I actually don't know what they did after that because I stopped caring a long time ago, lol.

There was one perfect place for modern day AC: when Desmond was in Washington DC to find the apple. They had already established that using the Animus was training his body to be able to use assassin techniques and it would have been the absolute best opportunity to showcase what that might look like. If I'm remembering right, all we get is a pseudo stealth segment inside a building.

Ah forgot about those, that must have been the 3rd suggestion. An ancient south american or central american civilization.

Which is ironic given Assassin's Creed was gonna be a new Prince of Persia before Ubisoft decided to pivot that franchise and keep it milkable for decades.

Which sucks, because I love me a good conspiracy based plot like the original 'modern era' Assassin's Creed plots and the Blume company shit in Watch Dogs.

I always figured they'd do a modern one eventually, but it feels like the modern story went a little off the rails post-Desmond, so I don't even know what that would look like at this point. After ACIII, I lost interest in the series for a while and didn't play any of the games until Odyssey and then Valhalla and was suitably confused.

there's two characters that show up but you really don't do much with them. There's tidbits of story there but honestly feels like they should just change this game to just send you straight into playing an assassin without the modern world having anything to do with it. In fact, I am pretty sure it would have been a better game without it appearing to be some sort of simulation in the first place. The Assassin's Creed games aren't widely popular because of those things so the reason for even keeping it a thing is ridiculous.

This is what they did in Liberation. You don't even know who is in the Animus but it's implied to be a Templar that left the assassins somewhere along their lineage.

Allow me to use one sentence to describe how ridiculous this series has gotten. Valhalla/Mirage spoilers.

The "modern" character changed again, because the entire overarching plotline was manipulated by Basim (who is actually Loki) in order to get revenge on Eivor (who is actually Thor) and he spent about a thousand years strapped to a tentacle after tricking the previous main character into taking his place.

Ok, two sentences.

Also Desmond was there.
