Like it's sort of like if Buffy was written by a couple of frat bros

The writing, acting and direction isn't anywhere as good
It goes on way too long
It's best in the first 4 seasons
It becomes a weird comically twisted meta version of itself
The actors clearly gave up like after season 6 but stuck around for the paycheck and the fans
it doesn't even go on kicking and screaming for a couple of more seasons than it should, it goes on for like 10 more seasons than it should

It sort of just...keeps on going? I'm reminded of that How I met you Mother Skit where Marshall's car can only play one song and he explains that you end up hating it but it comes around again

That's what this show is like. It fucking sucks for like 4 straight seasons but somehow you keep watching and you end up liking it again, even though it never gets any better

This isn't true. Sure S11-15 isn't as great as the first 5 seasons but still enjoyable. It's much better than S7-9.

That was kind of my point but I also disagree in terms of severity. Buffy went down in quality generally speaking but it still had some of the greatest tv moments well into season 6. Hush - season 4. Once More with feeling - season 6. The body - season 5.

Yeah buffy started to kind of suck, but look at what we're comparing. 15 seasons compared to 7. Supernatural stopped having a plot anyone cared about at season 4.

Yeah that fucking sucked. Later on they try to reintroduce some of this stuff again and they just can't get the episodic stuff back for whatever reason. Like they devote one single episode to the entire greek pantheon. Come on.

It's really good, but here's a weird feature

The actor who plays Sam somehow becomes a worse actor as time goes on, while the actor who plays dean becomes a better actor

So the dissonance here becomes sort of jarring after so many seasons

It was absolutely stronger as a villain nay monster of the week show. The Wendigo episode I remember giving me genuine chills.

Then it became much more about Christian mythology because the writer changed hands. S5 would have been a great ending too.

I think the core actors had fun with it long after season 5 tbh.

I do agree angels and demons stayed the focus too long. Like even after Every archangel is dead or sealed and 99% the angels are killed you still get tons of angel and demon season plots

However most episodes were okay for awhile and you still got bangers like the Scooby Doo Episode showing up.

First 5 seasons absolutely were stronger.

No seasons 7 and 8 were rock bottom for the show. They spent the next several seasons slowly crawling out of that hole. By season 11, they lean into their meta cheese a little more and just having fun with it which seems to be a complaint of yours. Like in one episode, Dean kills Hitler. Reading that sounds insanely stupid but it's funny cause he spends the next couple episodes annoying bragging to Sam being like "Hey. Remember the other week when I killed Hitler? "

I'm on season 14 and it is a serious trial now. There were some really bad lows like I think 6 and 7 were terrible, but it goes through waves. There are some good seasons in there but none hit the highs of 1 - 5. Hell, the finale of 13 was so stupidly poor I thought it was a joke.

However, season 13 has a scooby doo crossover episode that is legitimately amazing.

Yep that was where it happened. While there is real judeo-christian lore to back it up. Execution not so much. There are 2 highlights of that season. The jokes Dean makes about the villians name. And I believe a episode with the perspective of the car is in that season.

Wincest fans were eventually overshadowed by destial shippers a much better ship since the 2 men involved weren't brothers

It was such a popular ship thatis was actually made canon on the final season for 5 glorious seconds before castiel was killed off for the final time

Yeah. I understand people's hate for the big bads in s7, but it had some really good character driven episodes (one with Bobby, one with castiel), and they kinda went back to monster of the week for the most part.

Those first five seasons are some of the best tv of all time IMO

I do feel like they got screwed by being just popular enough to renew the show.

If you finished at season 5 before the cliffhanger thats a 10/10 ending

season 6 is odd. But then gets going when it reveals the big twist.

season 7 sucks

8-10 is kind of bad but the idea of closing the gates of heaven and hell is a really great place to end the series. But they do nothing with it. Demon. Dean is another great story. That becomes nothing.

then its a huge mixed bag for so long. I did like the Amaya season but the way it was implemented was average.

then season 14 really redeems the show and ends on one of the best setups you could end a show on.

and then 15 s***s the bed beyond belief. Seriously. Theh could have had a huge season fighting all the best villains from the shows history. They could have had a huge Multiversal Sam/Dean fight against God. Instead they spend most of the season saying Sam and Dean were always kind of the worst hunters of all time but god liked them. Then rather than postpone the finale a few months. They just film it with like 4 people not even bringing back main characters. F*** me watching that hurt

I like to blame Covid but I think that the plans were mostly made before that...Dean only having Sam at his funeral after dying to a freaking nail was BS though.

Its the problem when you put such powerful beings into a show that clearly does not have the funds to give them justice.

Supernatural is fucking awesome and yeah it got boring during like seasons 7 - 9 or 10 but then it picked up again and finished *really* strong.

I loved the premise of the series ending itself but it did miss the mark in one big area. MAJOR SERIES SPOILERS I'm not religious but the idea of "killing god" seemed like a very controversial concept, especially for a CW show. I like that they found a way to carry the spirit on. Overall it just felt like a very tasteful way to tackle this concept while... still killing god.

I did not like that they end up with "everyone they love" at the end, but it's like... just them. Not their parents or other key characters from the show's history. It fell very flat.

Jensen and Jared are 100% on board with another season, too, they just want to make sure it carries the same character as the original series and fits their work schedule.
