Most updated RPG re-releases I can think of are more like remasters than remakes so hard to think of a lot. But the Neptunia "remakes" changed all the gameplay because the originals were bad. Also, this is a little bit of a stretch but Kingdom Hearts has invented excuses to retell and redo the KH1 plot like at least 3 or 4 times across the series, and each time is a little different.

Only the first remake truly abandoned the battle system. The other remakes just incorporated the advancements made since then.

Tales of destiny PS2's battle system is a whole different thing compared to it's original PS1 version, which aged pretty poorly since that and tales of phantasia snes were the only 2 tales of games in existence at the time. The only thing that is similar between the two is that its action based in where you can move your character around, but it ends there when it comes to the mechanics/how everything works and all that.

*Now I am starting to imagine if tales of destiny PS2 were to be a modern release just how bad a vocal minority of tales of fans would legit complain about it being different from destiny PS1's more basic battle system, lol*

It basically adapts the Pokemon Go style of gameplay where it's mostly catching and a very rudimentary version of the traditional battle system for trainer battles.

Sniper Elite 1s remake did a full overhaul on the system, because the original system was really really bad. Your scroll wheel adjusted character movement speed. That's how bad it was.

It replaces wild battles with Pokemon go style catching mechanics. The trainer and gym battles are still the same gameplay.

I honestly doubt that. Actually s lot of people have compared 7r to tod:r in Japan.

As for remakes that changed their gameplay? The first couple of resident evil games play more like modern re games than the old static cameras and tank controls. I'd say that they play completely different as a genre.

It changes some things, but most of them are for the better and it keeps the same energy as the original.
