Im actually 17 hours in apparently, but I still feel pretty lost. Ive beaten Margil and Godrick and a few minor bosses like the knight at the beginning and some dragons. Also the one in the south by the shore that drops the sword in that castle where the head of the castles daughter sent me to find her father.

Im trying to get through Raya Lucaria right now and am having trouble with the Red Wolf of Radagon. Ive put most of my points into vigor, and am wielding a cleaver as my main weapon (I was using some sword but switched to the cleaver because it hits faster) and a claw in my left hand (mainly because it looks cool, lol).

Im pretty bad at Souls-likes but it is kind of amazing how it can be so, sooo frustrating but then just like people say you slowly learn and then are so satisfied when you finally manage to beat that enemy youve been working on. Like, with both Margil and Godrick I remember after the first few tries putting down my controller and being like, alright, welp, never getting past this part.

Sounds like you are doing good to me. That dog is a real pain in the butt imo.

You put points into Vigor, so you're doing better than most people. The most general advice is that this isn't a game where you can be a jack-of-all trades unless you want to get to level 300 or something. You need to focus on one build and the stats for that build.
