Lugo and Yusuke is carrying pretty hard and making even the boss fights into jokes. Granted, I am playing on normal mode (for some reason the game won't let me play hard mode) so that probably explains it. But the fact you get both of these characters super early into the game makes me not want to experiment with most other characters. In fact, I think the balance in this game are all over the place. Why the fuck is Mio so weak when she is part of the "main cast"?

Yusuke falls off around level 60s while Mio is a beast in the late game. Lugo remains pretty decent through most of the game but he loses his tankiness towards the end game.

Mio actually gets quite good and as Hannibal said, Yusuke falls off.

Mio doesn't become good until you're way past the point where you've beaten everything

But I'll add for the main game in normal you can use whoever you want for the most part. I kept Gigina around even if he's a really terrible character stat wise.

I think it's chill. It starts off a little slow but once you get to manage the castle and go around recruiting other party members it picks up. I have about 65 hours clocked in and doing a new game+ run with reset stats on hard with all the recruited characters from my first run.

I heard Iugo is good, but I'm benching him relatively shortly because I want to use a fresh new set of characters.

He is. I used him most of my normal playthrough, my endgame party ended up being Lugo, Dijkistra and Gigina on the front and Nowa, Lam and Foxiel as the back row. He's a pretty consistent heavy hitter. Once you get access to the boss rush mode your levels skyrocket, I ended up reaching level 65 the first time I used it a little into the last part of the story and I could safely flee most encounters because I was too high leveled. Plus with the leveling system you can pretty much expiriment with any party composition because a few random encounters can bring any low level party member up to par with the rest of the party.
