I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that this was probably a joke. Hank Hill is old fashioned, that's part what makes his character so funny.

That's not what it suggested. And it wasn't pot that the dude was smoking. He was doing hard drugs. Its the fact that people claim 'everything' is a disability or they have it. Those who abuse disabilities for selfish reasons are terrible people and that's what that episode was about.

Nope, the entire episode was that Strickland hires a new employee who's on drugs (might have been cocaine and not pot, now that I'm thinking about it) and the company is forced to give him accommodations due to his disability to the extent that he doesn't have to actually do any work and can just show up and get high in the bathroom all day, so every other employee at Strickland Propane aside from Hank starts faking illnesses and disabilities so they can get the same treatment.

It took awhile to find its footing and it overstayed its welcome, but yes, it was a good show. It never reached peak Simpsons, though.

The show is a satire. It's mocking people who think everybody on disability is either a pothead or a fraud.

Also just because Hank is the protagonist doesn't mean that the show is using him as the moral of the story. Most of the time its Hank who is wrong and he's close minded and the show runs with it. Its all satire and pokes fun at all of the characters rather than agrees with them.

In one post you say that it says that everyone with disabilities are faking it and now you just described the actual thing. It doesn't suggest people are faking disabilities but that there are those who try to and those are the villains of that role. None of the characters had a handicap or mental illness(probably) but they claimed to to take advantage.

I like the show, but people misinterpret it as conservative propaganda. Hank was pretty liberal , just very naive. also you aren't supposed to agree with everything Hank says even if the show is portraying him as right. the show isn't perfect and some episodes do come in bad taste.

Its the people incapable of critical thinking that look at it and think 'oh this is conservative'. If someone was watching Hank and thinking 'role model' they were looking at it wrong. There are a lot of good things about Hank(like how he is with children and his work ethic) but his views were never to be admired. It was meant to clash with Bobby.

Yeah and then what happened? It turned out that it was a real bad idea. A lot of people don't realize that the actions were meant to be seen as terrible and not just "ohahha that's hilarious" or anything of that sort. Its also not meant to be shock 'funny' like Family Guy does.

Its all satire. There's so many ridiculous things said that don't sound funny unless in the context but the point is the dry humor such as how everyone responds to Bill's depression.

I never said the word "claim", so you can take those quotation marks off that word, thank you. The word I used was suggested, and it's pretty clear from the tone and content of the episode that they wanted the viewer to walk away from it with the impression that Hank was right and disability is an easily exploitable scam.

They don't even get the legalities of it right, and at the end Hank is portrayed as a heroic figure for temporarily quitting his job so Buck can fire the new employee and get everybody else back in line. There's no learning moment for him as a flawed character making incorrect assumptions about the disability system or people on it; all it shows is people taking advantage so they can make their own work lives easier by lying to the government.

If the message of the episode was meant to be that not everybody on disability is scamming, then that would have been the content of the episode as well. Hank would have had to prove the opposite, that a new hire is legitimately disabled and needs to benefit from the program despite everybody else's doubts. It wouldn't have shown literally an entire business claiming "I'm disabled" because they saw an opportunity, and the government just shrugging and saying "yep, looks legit" without any legwork. The way the episode was written didn't vilify one or two specific employees, but rather the entire system of disability itself and by extension everyone benefiting from it.

Sometimes there were really bizarre episodes, like that one where Bill gets really buff and gets addicted to working out.

Then there is that one where the football player moves into the neighborhood and ruins things. Hank has to think of some really weak plan that only works out because Hank is the main character. I never liked that ending.

KotH is a good litmus test of media literacy.

Hank and Peggy arent always the hero. They are just the main characters. Peggy is obnoxious and thats the point. Hank is stubborn and thats the point. They arent always right. You are watching two real people making mistakes and sometimes getting away with it. That happens to everyone.

Sucks that it has 4 seasons yet gets virtually ignored bc people would rather other animated shows that are decades old, I still find it solid

You guys are seriously misrepresenting the episode in question you're literally leaving half the context out.

Why did Hank hire the heroin addict? Because he didn't want to hire the super qualified woman who applied before him and the guy faked interest in sports.

The whole point of the episode was showing how Hank was wrong for passing up on the woman and hiring a heroin addict that cant perform his duties at all.
