I like convenience of earbuds but I think I'd be better off with some tried and true over-ear headphones, just for hardware longevity reasons.

what do y'all think of hifiman. they have some in that budget range $150 but ik they don't have a great reputation when it comes to QC. I've had like 3 break on me and another one that came with a broken cable but was fine otherwise

I got the HE-4xx and they're my favorite set of cans. They do feel a bit cheap but I care more about the sound quality than looks.

Sony MDR-CD900ST, of all the headphones I've used over the years these are the only ones that held up even after rolling over onto them. They're like $120-150 come in a plain brown box because they're for commercial use (monitors for music recording) and they're made in Japan instead of China or Taiwan.
Been rolling these for probably four years now, and the only thing to wear out were my aftermarket leather pads and the plastic decals on the side that sort of lifted until I finally just pulled them off.
They do have a really long cable and you'll need an adapter to run them, though if you know what you're doing or know someone, you can put a standard 3.5mm plug on it or do whatever configuration you want like a 3.5mm female on the headphone to run a bluetooth amp.

i've heard many great things about that headphone and would like to try it someday. the most compareable i have is the sundara (2020 version) and i enjoy it a lot and consider it endgame after some eq to its bass. based on graphs the 4xx doesn't need as much eq in the bass area since it doesn't drop as much. i like +5 above that point. Umm their mids are the most noticeably different. seems like 4xx has more of a eggshaped hifiman mids (like arya and he1000 series) that is quite nice IMO.

but yeah i gotta try them out for sure
