Isn't that a bit.... counter-productive?

Well for me it was because I didn't like the fact I was diagnosed with mental issues (at age 18 or 19) and felt like there was no reason to continue living. I don't know if that counts though. The meds I was taking at the time definitely made me feel worse about myself more than correcting me. I quit taking it and felt better soon after. The depression went away but the anxiety never did.

When I was on SSRIs they just made me feel fucking weird, like a complete stranger to myself. On top of that I felt jacked up all the time and it was seriously affecting my sleep.

One of the tragic consequences of antidepressants giving patients more energy and focus is that they are more likely to carry out their plans.

That's what happens when only the symptoms, and not the causes or the living situation of the mentally ill are addressed.

I've had that happen to me a couple of times. I was on so many different anti-depressants from age 13 to my early 20s and none of them really helped and also had some bad side effect. At some point I just said screw it and stopped taking anything and found other ways to make me less depressed.

Before someone misconstrues my post, I'm not saying everyone should do so nor am I saying that anti-depressants don't work in general.

Sometimes you have to go through some ineffective meds before you find the right fit. There are good days and bad days. Just like without meds, really. You find ways to make it better as you grow and get used to it.

You need better antidepressants. Thankfully mine don't make me go down that path.

Not all side effects of a drug are really a side effect. People who are paid to test a drug must list everything they went through and if enough do it gets put as a side effect

Id assume it just doesn't stop suicidal thoughts that depressed people tend to have.

I feel like no one has really answered the question. It's because some anti depressants create an artificial chemical change and your body can handle that poorly. Especially if you're not doing anything else to combat depression. That's basically the simplified explanation I got from someone I know at least.

Yeah, there is no one antidepressant that works for everyone. It's common for people to have to try different ones before they find one that works for them.

Is that where the whole "finding the right one" comes in?

Anti-depressants can also make you ... you know... early in the bedroom.
