... but also I feel like make Dyne worse in the process?

Barret is SO far improved in Rebirth compared to the original. He's an actual character who shows growth and emotion rather than being a caricature. However, Dyne was written far better in the original... it felt way more like he lost hope and chose a darker path in the original compared to just kinda going crazy?

Barret's Japanese voice actors are fantastic

and yes Dyne could have been much better. Kenjiro Tsuda was a really good fit for him too

In terms of gameplay mechanics, every playable character from Remake got improved one way or another in Rebirth.

Barret randomly busting out how he doesn't want marlene to grow up when doing that one quest with the dog was pretty great, lol.

Yeah. One of the things I like the most about remake/rebirth is just how many characters benefited with having extra characterization to them (also personally I did not feel barret was too bad in remake). Aerith is the one character who for decades was just a sort of "eh, shes there and she is ok" and to me always was the bland one, and then when remake drops she is pretty great all around.
