If I didnt know better I would think Scarlet/Violet was the first crack at an open world game and Legends: Arceus was the refined fully realized open world game that came later. Obvious Switch limitations but way better graphics and much more polished.

Scarlet / Violet are - from a pure technical perspective - trash. I've seen phone games that look better.

Scarlet/Violet wasn't ambitious in the slightest yet at many points it comes off like an upscaled PSP game

Eh I wouldn't say Arceus was refined or fully realized. It's basically a tech demo with objectives

Scarlet/Violet are truly open world, whereas Arceus uses gated "zones."

That said, Scarlet/Violet suffered for it, from a technical perspective.

I more meant it was likely the best they could get out of this 8 year old hardware, theres definitely much more they can do with open world Pokemon on more powerful hardware in the future (they fucking wont, but they could).

Gamefreak struggles immensely to make competent large scale hd projects. There is no reason Scarlet/violet should run the way they do with the graphics they have.

SMTV runs like ass frame rate wise, but it was still more playable day 1 than S/V, and with immensely better graphics and effects.

Look at botw/totk, smtv, xenoblade, etc. None of them feel like tech demos.

the switch is horribly underpowered, but gamefreak is just incompetent.
