I recently beat it, and I think I noticed it early on like you did, but either they toned it down later, or I tuned it out.

This is how I feel like too. Either it's toned down or I tuned it out.

In Rebirth though, it's barely there through the 100+ hours of content it has, so that's good. The localization team clearly addressed the issue.

They toned down the animeisms for the sequel at least...though we get the obligatory beach episode.

The dialog is a big part of me being turned off by JRPGs. I generally haven't hated dialog in Final Fantasy specifically, but most other JRPGs have such atrocious dialog. It sounds so unnatural, the voices are usually so high-pitched that it's like their atmosphere is half helium, and so much of it is just filler that doesn't add anything but padding.

I loved JRPGs on NES and SNES. After that, not so much.
