aliens could've mind controlled the Chinese into setting off the nukes?

I always kind of got that vibe anyway honestly. Interesting to see them leaning into it more.

well, to be fair, it establishes that they have a contingency plan to kickstart the war if they have to, but it hasn't confirmed yet whether or not they actually enacted that plan

Aliens have consistently been in all the games, so I do hope the show includes them in some fashion. I personally don't like the corporate conspiracy angle but if they go with it that's fine too. I feel it downplays the war never changes angle (though you could connect it with the Spanish American War and the attempt to sell more newspapers).

I think there's a storyline in 3's DLC that takes you back in time and you are fighting off the initial Chinese ground invasion, meaning China likely started the war but who knows who launched the first nuke

In established lore China fired the first nuke and it happens after Alaska is retaken and the US has invaded mainland China.

The Zetans don't seem competent enough to do that.

I watched the show before I started Fallout 4, but early in FO4 you can find a recording that says the nukes were a global event. so either vault tech did it or it was aliens

Yeah, it just established that they had planned to drop a nuke if no one else did. The only thing that the show confirmed was that Vault Tec nuked Shady Sands when Maximus was a kid. Because that was their plan to "fix" the surface. Nuke away any problems from the safety of the vaults.

That whole thing is A VR/Training simulation. So the legitimacy of it is very much in question.

I don't know that they did tbh. I don't think Vaults 31-33 are Vault-Tec's grand plan. They're just a Vault Bud was given because he was upper management so he could run his own little "Bud's Buds" Vault experiment. Hank was Barbara's executive assistant and Betty didn't seem to be much higher in the rankings. They're hardly cream of the crop for Vault-Tec.

Barbara was the highest ranking employee we see in the show and I'd bet money *she's* not in Vault 31.

The main thing established with Bethesda's time with Fallout 4 is that a few key figures at Vault-Tec and the military seemed to suspect nukes would launch on that particular day. So some indirect warnings were given to friends of those people several hours before things went to hell.

I'm not 100% convinced aliens are canon even with Mothership DLC.

Haven't watched the show but can someone fill me in on vault tecs plan? Like I know the shelters where to be expierements but did they like monitor them from their own shelter or where they idiots and died when the nukes hit? If the former what are they up to I'm fallouts timeline?

They're literally in every single mainline Fallout game. Their guns are usually the best weapons in the game.

They should remain minor/optional stuff in my humble opinion. I'm not big on alien stuff

I'm guessing they only did aliens to use what was basically common place 50s depictions of aliens and their tech.

I feel people arguing over who fired the first nuke (and who 'caused' the fallout) is kind of missing the point that the game was trying to say.

At least the original game.

Same way people don't even realize that Nuka-Cola bottle caps becoming currency was social commentary.

I hope they never directly state it TBH

The Enclave has alien tech. Skynet was made with alien tech (it tells you so itself). It started out minor in 1, but starting with 2 they became a pretty involved part of the universe.

Still seems minor. Though I only remember dealing the enclave in 3 and then the remnants in New Vegas. Don't recall any alien tech not saying it's not there it just wasn't in your face I guess.

Enclave in 2 and Brotherhood of Steel both have Alien tech. Skynet is an NPC that tells you it was made with alien tech. New Vegas gets more alien encounters if you take the Wild Wasteland trait.

Hmm I always took wild wasteland and don't recall anything. Always took it cause the others always had a obvious downside.

But yeah never played 1 or 2. Maybe one day

It was to the southeast of the Strip, IIRC, near the eastern edge of the map.

It's in the games if you read between the lines. 4's opening shows this. Look at the dudes reaction when he makes sure the MC and family are ready to enter the vault. He knows somethings coming. That's why his reaction on not being let in shocks him.

Reading in-between the lines of the scant lore on the topic, this was kind of already implied to me. At the very least, the elites in America knew that a nuclear exchange was coming and when it was coming.

It wasn't Vault Tec it was The Enclave

What we saw in that meeting room was The Enclave beginning to pull the strings of corporate power in the US.

Before Walter Goggins' wife suggests dropping the bombs we see a silhouetted figure observing the meeting. There's an implication the she broaches the idea of dropping the bombs themselves at the suggestion of this figure.

Also Vault Tec stole the research for cold fusion and 200ish years later the Enclave happens to have it?

Touche. It just seemed like whole "your dad is an evil monster" reveal with Moldaver implied that Hank was the one responsible. But yeah, they weren't exactly the big wigs. And we did find out that Cooper had been doing all of this in order to find his family. So they're out there somewhere. And maybe season 2 will reveal who that mysterious figure was, that was watching over the Vault Tec meeting.

Something like this might have happened, because not all of the Vaults were ready yet and you'd think they'd want to make sure they were 100% ready before kicking things off. But then again, Vault-Tec is full of idiots and factional competition so who knows?

Personally I hope they never actually reveal for certain who kicked things off and just keep it vague that it could've been anybody.

That seems plausible. Coop's wife, the seeming grand architect of the scheme, would have made certain her daughter was with her on the day of the attack, rather than at some kid's birthday party miles from the nearest Vault.
