He's a theoretical physicist so a lot of the stuff he talks about is either unproven or only works on paper, like a Dyson Sphere.

Generally speaking theoretical science is usually at least a half century ahead of technology that puts into practice their theories.

probably stuff they were talking about in 30+ years prior. There's a book, "The Trouble with Physics" which criticizes the lack of progress the Modern Physics community has made over the century. I read it partially in 2011 but haven't kept up with the field since I finished school around then.
