When I asked a while back, a lot of people responded that it's cool for the "power fantasy" aspect. This guy that gets to level up and become OP in a world where apparently no one else can level up?

Maybe S1 wasn't showing him as OP yet and that's the problem? He gets the necro class change at the end and isn't really able to show it off. But even then, I'm not seeing what a lot of my friends are calling it the GOAT anime of recent for. Even the leveling part is like...not all that unique to me.

Idk. Maybe I'm missing something?

Honestly, I stopped liking the main character once he got his glow up. He became too smug and arrogant.

It's just the current overhyped casual fad favourite, for those that don't actually watch anime

The art is what sold it. The story gets no bonus points.

The story is beyond terrible from what I hear, I haven't watched it myself so I'm saying that in advance. Unlike Frieren, I don't think Solo Leveling does anything we haven't seen before, & the characters & story sound extremely uninteresting. It's mostly just about the action it sounds like. Log Horizon, Overlord, lots of other things would be a better watch in that category. Or even that one where the guy has an amazon kiosk on demand in another world & can summon anything he wants to cook or eat, the animation quality in that one is great & the concept isn't taking itself seriously.

It's just more wish fulfillment garbage for the people that love to self insert into the MC.

You're not missing something.

You're not really missing anything. The biggest draw that Solo Leveling has is the manhwa art. The story and characters aren't anything special.

If you wanna plow through the story to get to where he's god mode, just read the manhwa - it's a better experience anyway, for the most part. The only thing I really liked that they did in the anime was the soundtrack.

Yeah even the idea of "Guy becomes OP" seems...not that attractive to me lol. Plenty of animes have that, but they have a struggle or some sort of backstory to it instead of it being the only point.

And while he did have a bit of a struggle in the last few episodes, it kinda took me out that when he shoulda died, he just went to some random place to heal up and get upgrades again lol.
