Not to be confused with The Wizard of Oz. I remember my first grade teacher having us watch Return to Oz in class. I thought it was going to be some cute sequel to Wizard of Oz. To say I couldn't have been more wrong is an understatement.

I'll just leave this right here.

And that's not even getting into some of the other messed up things in the movie. Such as the family thinking Dorothy is crazy for talking about her visits to Oz, so they send her to a shock therapy psych ward.

Return to Oz is awesome tho

Apparently, people back then disliked the film because it was too dark and scary for kids, even though it was more faithful to the original books (whereas the original 1939 film was made to be much lighter in tone in comparison to the books).

I've never understood why people think being a faithful adaptation negates any possible criticism.

If the thing sucked, and you tell me it's a faithful adaptation, all you're telling me is that the source material sucks too.
