I feel like the discord and other site might function as liferafts but I don't think they will last forever

reddit isn't super good. i checked out /r/visual novels and half the front page is weekly threads posted by automoderator. i assume if I post a thread, it might get 1 or two posts and drop off since reddit is upvote based

4chan doesn't seem good. when you get a small discussion going you have to follow the links of >numbers and it gets messy. maybe if i create a thread its better, it seems like people stick to generals though so its harder to get a specific topic going

twitter, facebook, tik tok etc are completely unexplored territory for me. i probably wont ever try those. but they seem individual based rather than topic based. and i assume as soon as I click something ive now got an algorithm that will decide what I see instead of just letting me see random things

CE seemed perfect for this purpose. just browse through the threads, anyone could ask anything and have a discussion, even on niche things from a decade ago

This place was one of the few remaining online discussion spaces we had that wasnt part of the megacorp social media shit-o-sphere that comprises most of the modern day internet.

maybe its just cause im a 30yo boomer who cant move on. it feels weird to just go into other communities and talk with people as well. how do you build lasting online friendships

Yeah, it's a real fucking bummer, but I don't think there are that many places like CE left, at least not ones that are active enough to migrate to. Reddit is fine for what it is, but it's heavily specialized and the threaded comment system is entirely different to this one.

yeah, i dunno. maybe resetera or something? i kinda just want a place I can shout things into the void of people who will usually listen and shout back. there's not really any place for that sort of stuff anymore. the internet kinda sucks outside of forums, and all the forums are dying
