Well, stop it. I'm here to tell you. If you ever find yourself a recipe calling for you to spread half the batter out, put the filling on it, and spread the other half on top, there's something you need to know about that recipe maker. They get off on your pain. They may look innocent as they smile smugly in their white middle class housewife way, but their singular purpose in life is to fuck you over. There are two things you need to do as a matter of course to spite these assholes. Isolate the batter part of the recipe and increase it by 1.25x. Even 1.5x if 1.25x isn't convertible enough (and it's not, because there are fucking eggs in there and what are you going to do, throw away half an egg? Eat half a fucking egg? No, you're not going to do that. And add slightly more flour than the recipe calls for. Don't go crazy here, I'm only talking like maybe 10% more flour max. Use your fucking head. These two steps will completely ruin their fun because invariably, inevitably, every fucking time if you follow that recipe that batter is going to stick to everything, not spread worth a goddamn, and there is not going to be enough of it. Oh, it'll be close. If it's blatantly obviously short you're going to realize what an asshole the recipe maker is, so they intentionally make it just barely short so you waste like 30 excruciating minutes trying to force it into a shape it will not go into. This is in fact the entire purpose of that recipe. Don't be fooled, and don't waste your time.

Meal kit services are annoying about this too. 5 minutes of prep time, and 1/3 of the second step out of 6 is like peeling and mincing ginger and garlic. Then 4-5 minutes to caramelize some onions.
