some people say that school is just a scam that teaches kids how to be obedient factory workers and schools don't really do anything to prepare kids how to manage fiances , gain life skills , or prepare for a career.

As in college? Maybe trade school or some kind of license or certification. A BA wont necessarily get you a high paying job but those other things might.

I have a Masters Degree though and I dont regret it.

From my experience from the 90s through the mid-00s, school was mostly fine. i do feel like we could probably do more to encourage specialization at an earlier age. like, people who absolutely are not gonna be engineers or whatever can skip higher math and take more of something else, or whatever.

My bigger issue is how much people as we were growing up pushed college, which is absolutely a scam at this point.

Apparently tons of celebrities get home schooled so I guess they figured out the better alternative. You just need a capable teacher who cares, which probably isn't easy to get

home ec wasn't a required course at my school, and the "government and econ" course that was mandatory was mostly trash.

you're right. you could argue that a government required class on teaching kids about fiances can't be trusted.

School's job is to teach you the stuff you don't want to learn or won't learn by yourself. Like did anybody here do math for fun or read classic litterature unless forced to?
